Wal-Mart won't survive the next RAT administration intact. It will be their scapegoat when they screw up the economy, and the company will end up being declared a monopoly and broken apart.

Forgot to mention that all this success is being built on the backs of slave labor and almost slave labor in Communist China.

After Sept.11, I remember reading that WalMart was picking up the difference in pay when employees that were also in the Nat'l Guard and Reserves were deployed. The head honchos figured the families left behind had enough to worry about without added financial difficulties. I'm not sure if this policy is still in effect, but they got my dollar for being supportive of our military and concerned for the families left behind.

WHY I DESPISE WALMART (GREATWALL MART)

"Lenin, who spent most of his life in the West and not in Russia, who knew the West much better than Russia, always wrote and said that the Western capitalists would do anything to strengthen the economy of the USSR. He said: They will bring us everything themselves, without thinking about their future. And, in a difficult moment, at a party meeting in Moscow, he said: 'Comrades, don't panic, when things get very though for us, we will give the bourgeoisie a rope, and the bourgeoisie will hang itself.' Then Karl Radek, who was a very resourceful wit, said: 'Vladimir Ilyich, but where are we going to get enough rope to hang the whole bourgeoisie?' Lenin effortlessly replied, ?They will sell it to us themselves.' " -Alexander Solzhenitsyn, speech to the AFL-CIO, Washington, D.C., June 30, 1975

Will NEVER buy anything at Wal-Mart . . . they allow people to return used bathing suits and panties. (My college roommate was fired for refusing to accept said returns.)

Although Wal-Mart is hitting speed bumps because of growing labor challenges, employment lawsuits and higher costs, few doubt it will stop besting competitors as it expands.

Bad writing. Should be "...few expect it will stop besting competitors..." or "few doubt it will continue besting competitors..."

I have a love-hate relationship with Wal-Mart. I appreciate the fact that they pass on low costs to their customers, but I can't stand buying Chinese made products. I always check to see where a product is made, and often Wal-Mart will offer several similar products so I can choose to buy the one made in the U.S. (or at least Korea, Thailand, anyplace but China). However, there are too many times when Chinese made products are the ONLY ones of a certain type that Wal-Mart carries.

Wal-Mart is kicking the competition by offering what the local consumer wants. Here in Wyoming I can buy reloading powder and Shotgun News at Wal-Mart. That amazes me. There is no other national retailer who can so effectively satisfy local tastes.

Wal-Mart is the top seller of groceries, jewelry and photo processing. It is moving into banking, used-car sales, travel and Internet access.

The writer didn't mention gasoline. Since it is the policy of Sam's Club (Walmart's warehouse club) to sell unleaded regular gasoline to members at a price five cents per gallon below the prevailing price within a 5-mile radius, Sam's gets 100% of my local unleaded regular business.

However, since I drive a compact car, their 3.47¢/min. phone cards save me even more than their gasoline does.

100 rounds of Federal low base 12 gauge 7 1/2 or 8 shot for
$14....Ya can't beat that unless your reloading your own...And even then just barely if ya are counting your time.

I try to avoid Wal-Mart. It's gotten nasty. Its customers, compared to the population at-large, are disproportionately loud, dirty, fat, stupid and ugly. The employees tend to be much the same, and in addition are unhelpful. The aisles are unbearably chaotic, crowded, and disorganized. The lines are always long. The parking lot is a jungle. These things tend to not contribute to an enojoyable shopping experience. It feels like visiting white trash town in the middle of trailer park county. And there aren't even any trailer parks around where I live.

Why doesn't someone buy, market, sell and advertise products made in America to counter Walmart-ization? If there's enough money in it, someone will.

I try to frequent the mom-&-pop stores downtown as much as possible, but it isn't always possible.

We're all working together; that's the secret. And we'll lower the cost of living for everyone, not just in America, but we'll give the world an opportunity to see what it's like to save and have a better lifestyle, a better life for all.

Sounds like the government, doesn't it? < /sarcasm>

I derive my greatest satisfaction from buying a Sam's Cola for 25 cents at their soda machines. Only Walmart can put Walmart soda machines next to Coke machines. (That's "pop" for you in the midwest and "tonic" for us in Boston).
