"Don Hewitt of 60 Minutes is blaming Bob Dole for making the Clinton & Dole segment boring. This is from the New York Post, Michael Starr wrote the piece: "If you were left cold by Sunday night's hotly anticipated '60 Minutes' showdown between Bill Clinton and Bob Dole, you weren't alone. '60 Minutes' chief Don Hewitt wasn't happy, either, and said he thought Dole needs work - and that the feature will have to be juiced up a bit. 'We're going to make sure it looks like more of a confrontation next time,' Hewitt told The Post."
Hewitt also said, "Dole knows he can do better, he called me and said I don't think I was as sharp as I could have been." Look folks, can we get something on the table? CBS got exactly what they wanted. They got headlines the next day that read, "Clinton: Bush tax cut unwarranted during time of war." As though news was made. There was no quote from AP on what Dole said in the headline. CBS wanted Bill Clinton to do a commentary. They knew they couldn't get away with just Bill Clinton alone, so they had to revive Point/Counterpoint, and they went out and found Senator Dole for Clinton to beat up on.
Honestly, they both were kind of sleep inducing. Clinton looked pale, weary, and excessively gray with big bags under his eyes, sort of like there's a lot on his mind. And there probably is, my friends. There probably is."
Heh heh heh...MUD
