The article forgot
Venezuela slipping under a murdering, bombing, secret police supported, political assassinating street thug, Hugo Chavez.
I can only assume he will be exiled with a few hundred million or billion in stolen oil revenues, if he isn't made to assume room temperature by a long suffering populace.

I agree with most of the theory, but the list is a little goofy. India doesn't belong there. China and Russia are only there because they are big, but both are integrating pretty well with the world economy. North Korea should be closer to the top of the list.

Beijing is still ruled by a Communist party whose ideological formula is 30 percent Marxist-Leninist and 70 percent Sopranos...That's a funny/true observation.
I like the Core vs Gap model too.

Bump, nice thread

Shrink the Gap. Notice I did not just say Mind the Gap. What an excellent article. This is a very creative way of looking at it, and an excellent explanation (Core, Gap and "seams").
One of the unanswered questions, for me, at least, is how anybody who lives in one of the Core areas could attack "globalization" of the Core's values and practices. Perhaps it's a result of ideological blindness (mainly Marxist and Islamicist ideology), or perhaps it's just sheer human perversity.
In any case, the author has created a model that makes the patterns very visible and intelligible. I hope this article gets more attention (republished in something like the WSJ) and that these concepts make it out into the mainstream of geopolitical thought.

This is from the Naval War College? It's got 10% honest content or less and 90%+ Council on Foreign Relations claptrap.
It idolizes "democracy" -- sorry, but democracy ain't the nexus of Good. George Washington understood what the true nexus is -- morality, respect for law -- Justice and Benevolence never seperated. A G-d-fearing Republic with respect for the Natural Rights equally ordained to each man by his Creator.
And it's anti-Israel. Subtle, glancing, but there it is: the Jew Hating, G-d Hating, heart that beats in the CFR.
