Now, assuming this was an organ "donation" of an illegal variety...pray tell, where is the surgery being performed?

They'd need to know the victim's blood type if a particular recipient was intended. But if the intent was only to sell organs to some kind of illegal market in transplant organs, there'd be no need for such knowledge.
By the way, my blood type is O negative (universal donor). Maybe I better keep that information secret.
