Did Congress authorize Bush to wage war on Iraq without a UN resolution?
Did Congress leave the timing of the war to Bush to decide?
Did Congress appropriate funding for preparations of that war?
Does congress not retain the power to rescind the resolution or to stop funding?
Is Bush not required to keep congress informed of the situation on a regular basis?

So you really are trying to tell me that the President was saying, in effect, "Deciding when [not whether] to send troops into battle is the most profound decision a President can make." Do I have that right? He was making such a stirring sentiment over a matter of timing?

I see, so as you understand it, he has committed himself to only one course - going to war. Are you sure about this now?

I can most assuredly bet that no one you knew was killed on 9/11.So unless someone hasn't lost a loved one in the September 11 attack their position has no merit. Is that correct?
Sounds like a logical fallacy to me but... I lost the mother of a good friend over the Pentagon. Can I state my position?

exodus - "As it was, as I point out here, Jefferson could have decided to NOT go to war."
Darkdrake - Wait a minute, you said that only Cogress can decide peace or war. You are waffling here.

If Jefferson could decide that we weren't at war with the pirates, Congress wasn't making the decision.
That's illegal.

Yes he is going to go to war with Iraq under the authority granted him by the United States Congress and his constitutional role as CIC. Saddam could probably avoid the war if he and his entire government turned themselves in but I really don't see that happening...do you?
To: Texasforever
Yes to all.

The the Constitution has been followed and all is well.

Yes. That answer is proof that Congress hasn't declared war.

I should have used "evidence" instead of "proof."

should have used "evidence" instead of "proof." Do you think Congress is without an oversight role as to conduct of a war once it has been "declared"?
To: Texasforever
Because war is not fought in six month stages, if you intend to win the war.
Do you have a link to the text of the "Authourazation of Force?"
I think I remember something, but I want to check before I jump too far off my memory track.

Well, it's just that a little further down in the State of the Union Address, the President doesn't seem quite so certain about it: "If war is forced upon us [Read: If I decide to take us to war], we will fight in a just cause and by just means..."

You Texans, which I was as a boy-growing-up, should be proud of that man representing you. I wish there were more like him.
To: Texasforever
No, Congressional oversight is necessary in time of war as well as in time of peace.
