The Compaq TC1000 starts at about $1700 and goes up to about $2300. Basically they're about the same price as a similar laptop.
I played with a demo unit of the TC1000 for a couple of weeks. Loved it. This is the way portable computing will be done from now on. I bought a couple of them for others in my staff. Me, I'm going to wait a few more months and see the other entrants to the market, and then get one.

Good Idea but too pricey! Bring them down a grand and I'll buy.

$1800 - Hewlett Packard
$2500 - Toshiba

As they say in the fashion industry,
"If you have to ask, you can't afford it."
I'll stick with my Palm VII until the Toshiba hits eBay.

Did you find it to be like a big Palm Pilot? No. I found it to be like using a pad of paper. The journal is what really makes it for me. I like handwriting notes during meetings and phonecalls. With Journal, the handwritten doc stays handwriting. You can do handwriting recognition with it, and it's not bad, but you don't have to.
Using the pen as the mouse right on screen is just plain natural and easy to get spoiled by.
