The longer we wait for world opinion to sway our way, the more we put our force in jeopardy. I think we should be more decisive and do what we have to do, wherever we have to do it.

Bump! One of my grandfathers served in Korea in the AF & all but ran the mess hall at Pope AFB afterwards. My other grandfather served in Korea & Vietnam in the Army & was a proud member of PsyOps. My uncle was in the 82nd in Desert Storm/Shield. Needless to say, my family has always supported the men in uniform.

Count me and my boys in.
Hubby will actually be in a shooting match in Lillington down that way that day too. Possible he can put in a little time before he has to be at the range.

Please provide details/map for the rally. I am hoping that others across the State will come to support our troops.

I wish I could be there. I spent some fun and interesting times at Ft.Bragg with Co. C 2/504 (ABN)(INF). My thoughts and prayers go out to the 7th Special Forces, Delta(whispered), 82nd Airborne, 18th Airborne Corps, Pope Air Force Base, and a host of other brave American soldiers.

I know that I can be there for awhile. I have to check on the time of the other event for that day. Have you gotten a permit for the rally? I was at the rally in Raleigh a few weeks ago and we had needed one for that. It was loads of fun. I encourage everyone who can to show up and support our military.

FYI
This rally has been moved to Rowan St Park. This location was announced in today's newspaper. The move was made because of the large turnout that is expected. If anyone is coming from outside the area who doesn't know how to reach the park, please FreepMail me.

Fayetteville Woman Rallies Community To Show Support For Troops Rally Takes Place Saturday At Rowan Street Park
POSTED: 3:24 p.m. EST March 7, 2003
UPDATED: 4:07 p.m. EST March 7, 2003

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- A military spouse in Cumberland County does not want the controversy of war to overshadow the work of soldiers. She wants all servicemembers to know how much support they have at home.
After seeing antiwar protests on TV, JoAnne Jones, a military spouse, said she wanted to do something to make it very clear to all deployed soldiers that they have support at home.
Yellow ribbons inside and outside of JoAnne Jones' home are a sign of support for the military.
"I care about the morale of all soldiers because my husband could be over there," she said.
Jones has been married to her Army husband for nearly 19 years. He was deployed during Operation Enduring Freedom, but is now back at home.
After seeing all the antiwar protests on TV, Jones wanted to make it very clear to all deployed soldiers that they have support at home.
"I had to do something, especially here in Fayetteville, at Fort Bragg," she said.
She is now organizing a Support Our Troops rally for Saturday. In just two weeks, word of the rally has spread.
Hundreds of people from across the state are expected to wear her homemade ribbons and wave her banners at Rowan Street Park.
Jones' grassroots effort caught the attention of lawmakers and city leaders. Jones hopes people will wear her ribbons and wave American flags at the rally.
Jones' grassroots effort caught the attention of city leaders. Some councilmembers wrote checks out of their personal accounts to rent the park.
The state's VFW Commander has also asked all veterans to rally behind the cause.
"We've been there, done that. So we know the signs, symptoms to use for encouragement -- not only for the troops, but for support of their families," said Saundra Clagett, VFW District Commander.
Jones said this is not about being for or against war. It is about being there for the servicemembers fighting for our freedom.
Jones has received written support from Gov. Mike Easley and several lawmakers, including senators Elizabeth Dole and John Edwards.
The rally takes place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Rowan Street Park. Jones said she has received calls from people across the state who plan to attend.

This is the info I was able to get for this park online:
Rowan Park: 725 W. Rowan St. Recreation Center, picnic tables, playground equipment, tennis courts.
I hope this is right, I've never been to Fayetteville. I tried to post a map but it won't allow me to link from Yahoo maps.

Rowan St. park is a block from Hay Street. If memory serves, it's actually on *West* Rowan St., not Rowan St. Then again, I haven't been there since I was a kid. Last I knew there was a big, light blue, ceramic whale in the back of the park.
There aren't many parks in Fayetteville, so I'm sure you've got the right one.

Check your FreepMail. It is a straight shot from I-95. Stay on 24 and don't turn until you get to Ft. Bragg Blvd where you will yield out onto that road. West Rowan St will be the next left. The park is just up that street on the left. I think there is extra parking if needed across West Rowan from the park.

That's the right park. I think the whale is still there. He might be a different color but still there. He used to seem soooooo big but now he isn't.
