Dennis Miller Supports Bush on Leno
Posted on 02/25/2003 10:13:22 PM PST by Bubbette
Dennis Miller,on the Tonight Show, reamed the French and specifically Chirac a new one and then went on to condemn "peaceniks" who compare President Bush to Hitler "you should put down your sign and give them a good a$$kicking". Miller then spoke directly to President Bush. Turning to the camera he stated that he doesn't know if the President is watching but unlike a lot of his fellow entertainers he admires and supports him and feels that he got dealt a tough deck of cards.

Thanks. As newbies it can be intimidating! Though you say you bombed, you tossed it out there and sparked a lot of comment and additional info.
Ping to Dallas Mike-I finally did it!

I rather liked how he compared Germany to Nobel. How their reputations been so trashed by the 20th century that now they've become pacifists at all costs much like how Nobel saved his reputation after inventing TNT.

Sorry! As dfwgator has also ruined the special little shirts the guest singing act had on, I won't spoil all the antics T.A.T.U. was displaying for the audience. The cameras made a point of staying on the guitar player because the girls were up to no good for their viewing pleasure. BARF ALERT!

Miller was en fuego tonight:
On Russians: they took out so many "friendlys" in their own opera house, do you really want their pilots on your wing in battle?
Germans: such a great history they have, you can't tell if they're opposing this on principle or because it's not on a large enough scale (ROFL!).
He also suggested that we should turn the Eiffel Tower into the world's biggest oil rig, complete with postcard picture showing our President branding "W" on Chirac's butt.
Priceless.

I'm sorry to say I missed Dennis Miller, but Mrs. Marauder saw him and loved it, and related most of it to me.
But if you didn't watch the rest of it, you missed a little 10-year-old girl belting out a tune with a style reminiscent of the late, great Ella Fitzgerald, and she hit every note with precision. She was magnificent.

What was the audience reaction, especially to his last bit about supporting Bush?

That was good, too. I think there was a certain amount of shock at how conservative Miller sounded.

I expect nothing from the Hollywood crowd, so I am pleased if someone does a routine that reflects my opinions for once.
I enjoy using Barbra Streisand's "truth alerts" (sic) in my writing class. No one takes her seriously.

Incredible performance. Every time something like this happens, it changes minds - because it's done with intellect, wit, humor and by someone who his believed to be apolitical. Miller had a great line that we should leave the French out of the war and if they want to get their hands dirty, they can run them through their hair. He also had a good crack on Germany that the reason they don't want in on the Iraq war is maybe just a question of it not being on a 'large enough scale' for them. Leno himself has been incredibly brave in not succumbing to the liberal mindset despite operating out of Los Angeles and dealing with the Hollywood types day in and day out. He wears a U.S. flag pin on his lapel. Despite doing jokes on Bush's intellect and his handling of the economy (the first is to be expected by comedians, the latter somewhat questionable), he still does Al Gore and Clinton jokes nearly nightly despite the fact they're out of the spotlight. All in all, Leno's political balance has been as admirable as his sense of humor.

ALMOST makes me sorry for dogging him regarding his stint on Monday Night Football (Rush would have been great but with his hearing problems at the time, I can see why it couldn't have happened). But, his contribution on MNF was poorly executed.
Though skeptical, I think Miller has had a wake up call. Whether it is to save his career or genuine, only time will tell.
The comparison to Hitler (a phenomena of the Left) that is so casually thrown out by the Left to attack their opponents has long troubled and angered me.
But, as an entertainer, I'll watch him with a little more gusto.

Just caught him out here on the West Coast he was great and the audience loved him. He basically said something I have always thought. The liberals big experiment is California and look how screwed up it is. But his talk to President Bush (if your watching) was great. I wanted to stand up and cheer in my own living room.
