I found it refreshing that a mainstream movie embraced strong leadership founded in Christian faith.
It was good to see strong Christian men protrayed favorably. If Turner is anti-Christian, atheist, etc....he didn't show that in the movie.
Freepers praises Turner
NEW YORK, Feb 25 (UPQ) _ Free Republic," Freepers" today gathered in their ranks and called on support for Ted Turners New movie GODS AND GENERALS. Freepers setting a new benchmark for being clueless are banding together to pump funds back to Ted Turner for his vision of the World. Freepers were also looking for the soon to be released movie by "soon to be head of the UN", Bill Clinton, in his debut with his new production company, Billy's Fun Family Films. Clinton's film is the historically accurate film of Thomas Jefferson. Freepers are starting their hype machine early. Said one, "The Bible is on a table in every scene and that's good enough for me. Who cares where the money goes?"
Turners long career of hate and bashing of Christians and Americans was conveniently overlooked on the Free Republic today in exchanged for a good flick on the Civil War. This proves again that some people will sell their beliefs for just about Anything, even a movie.
"The United States has got some of the dumbest people in the world. I want you to know that. We know that,'' he said in a speech to an international forum hosted by CNN. "It's a disgrace. I mean there are times when I have been so discouraged ab out my own country.''
And Freepers are not excluded.
It's not a mainstream movie in the sense that there were no Hollywood lunches or star packages or any of that to get the thing funded. That's an important part of this whole thing. Turner provided all the cash.
The Crossing, the A&E movie of Washington crossing the Delaware had none, nada, zilch mention of religion or God. It was distinctly ODD on that basis. THAT movie smacks of the Hollywood way of doing things.
Jeff Daniels played Washington in that movie, as an aside.
