I have to hand it to you Walt. If they ever have a cut and paste reality show, I'm nominating you. ROTFL! I can see that one now... It'll be a bunch of hidden cameras placed around the basement of Walt's mother's house where he lives. They'll track him as he spend hours upon hours every day cutting and pasting from about 30 different harddrives rigged together in a giant mess of wires, surge protectors, and computer parts that he has salvaged off an old 386. In the corner will be a little stand with a minature statue of The Lincoln sitting in his chair, surrounded by a bunch of those dollar store religious candles, an incense bowl, a plate of food offerings, a few quartz crystals hanging on beaded strings, and a little plastic dashboard hula dancer. A giant poster of Walter Mondale will be hanging over his computer monitor, which is covered in old pizza boxes. And in the middle of it all sits Walt, frantically digging through an index of what hard drive stores which cut n' paste collection that he has written out by hand on a Big Chief tablet.

I was supposed to go to see the movie today after I gave a Civil War presentation to some eight graders. Dallas has ice today so the schools are closed. There isn't any sense in having the schools open to risk being on the road for the short time we will have these conditions. I was told to be ready tomorrow for it.
I was first told that it would be in a classroom but now it's for 300 kids in an auditorium. At least I have one more day to prepare.
I'm doing the Union side as a artilleryman and my friend is doing the Confederate side as an infantryman. I had to study the facts I had forgotten in the fifteen years since I've been out of reenacting.

ROTFL. Classic.

"Like the Bible, Lincoln can be quoted to prove about anything." - WaltGreat quote! Being logically challenged, Walt doesn't realize that he is implying that you can prove not only a given proposition, but also its negation, by quoting Lincoln. Maybe he stumbled backwards into the truth there.

There was no such thing as a legal property right in a slave within the jurisdiction of a free state, the Penumbral Emanation hocus-pocus of Dred Scott notwithstanding. The slave states added hypocrisy to their other deadly sins when they demanded abrogation of the states' rights of the free states in this regard.I forgot to address this part of your argument.
The right to ignore a duty specifically enumerated in the Constitution does not fall under states rights. The states rights doctrine covers items not specifically enumerated or delegated in the Constitution. In areas covered by the Constitution, such as the return of fugitive slaves, the Constitution trumps state laws, not the other way around.

I am sure they will be kind enough to leave us a pittance of the battlefield, and I seriously doubt that they will touch where Jackson fell. The SCV has been warning of this for years. The developers won. I was speaking in January with the gentleman who narrated the tape for the LEE's RETREAT tour; he advised us to go no later than this summer to see it all. He did not know when the bulldozers will start. Hopefully there will be a delay, but money talks, and they want those houses built.

A Republican did that. They also established the first national tax, reestablished the national bank, and started internal improvement plans that have consistently failed. Now Stalin would have been proud of that!! And you're no Republican, are you BillBears?

Well since you've asked, it comes down to being a conservative or being a Republican. And since those two are not always synonymous, why don't you tell me which is more important.

Can I take my kids (5 and 7) to see this movie? My first instinct is to say no, only because of the length. However, there is no profanity, nudity and the battle scenes are not graphic. If your children have any interest in history and can sit still that long, I would say definitely yes.
It is rated PG-13 only because of the battle scenes...but then I would think you aren't raising your kids to be anti-gun! :-)

That breaks my heart. Tonight my son said "Mom, was Stonewall Jackson a Christian in real life?" I answered him with a yes. He said "Great! We will get to meet him in Heaven!"
I cried.

Go see the movie. It's worth 8 bucks to see Turner singing "The Bonnie Blue Flag".
