Hi LJ -- well, at first I was trying to figure out what you were referring to -- then I realized the post you were responding to was over two years ago!! But as a cataloging clerk in a library, I guess you're used to rummaging through the archives!! I don't know that particular Andrews Sisters song -- they were a bit before I was born -- although I like the sentiment. Could you imagine the Dixie Chicks or Avril Lavigne doing one like that? As for the Andrews -- don't suppose you know "Rum and Coca Cola" or "Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen"? Those are good stuck in the head songs. (I had to laugh at your profile -- stuck in a liberal library -- I'm planted in the middle of Boston, so I know the feeling!!) Thanks for bringing back a great old post -- one more trip down memory lane.

If McDonalds causes obesity then why not the music industry causing mental illness? Law suits coming to a court near you soon.

Nelly's song (accompanied by Tim McGraw in the background)..."Over and Over Again..." has not left my head for about 8 weeks now...

I play guitar, but not enough to be good at it. For the last two days I've had the tune from the movie 'O'brother where art thou?' called Big Rock Candy Mountains it goes like this:

One evening as the sun went down
and the jungle fire was burning
Down the track came a hobo hiking
and he said boys I'm not turning
I'm headin for a land
that's far away
beside the crystal fountains
So come with me we'll go and see
the Big Rock Candy Mountains

In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
there's a land that's fair and bright
Where the handouts grow on bushes
and you sleep out every night
Where the boxcars are all empty
and the sun shines every day
On the birds and the bees
and the cigarette trees
Where the lemonade springs
where the bluebird sings
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains

In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
all the cops have wooden legs
And the bulldogs all have rubber teeth
and the hens lay soft boiled eggs
The farmer's trees are full of fruit
and the barns are full of hay
Oh, I'm bound to go
where there ain't no snow
Where the rain don't fall
and the wind don't blow
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains

In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
you never change your socks
And the little streams of alcohol
come a-trickling down the rocks
The brakemen have to tip their hats
and the railroad bulls are blind
There's a lake of stew
and of whiskey too
You can paddle all around 'em
in a big canoe
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains

In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
the jails are made of tin
And you can walk right out again
as soon as you are in
There ain't no short handled shovels,
no axes saws or picks
I'm a goin to stay
where you sleep all day
Where they hung the jerk
that invented work
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains

I'll see you all
this coming fall
in the Big Rock Candy Mountains

that's impressive.

i'm not musical. but songs just replay themselves over and over in my head.

it's the tunes and only some of the words that go through my head! i guess i should look up the songs and words on the internet.

One of Lennon-McCartney's greatest works of art:

Why don't we do it in the road?
Why don't we do it in the road?
Why don't we do it in the road?
Why don't we do it in the road?
No one will be watching us.
Why don't we do it in the road?

VERSE 2:

Why don't we do it in the road?
Why don't we do it in the road?
Why don't we do it in the road?
Why don't we do it in the road?
No one will be watching us.
Why don't we do it in the road?

Another British Invasion song:

I'm Henery the Eighth I am.
Henery the Eighth I am, I am....

And of course this gem:

Dooooooo, do do do do do doooooo.
Don't worry
Do do do do do dooooo
Be happy
Do do do do do dooooo
Don't worry be happy.

Oh Oh Oh-Oh Sweet Child of mi-ine...followed by the
solo...great song but after "n" plays - where "n" is a positive integer between 50 and Omigod I burst my brain,
it gets a little wearing!

When it comes to memorable lyrics, nobody can beat Neil Young.

I of course am thinking of his classic hit "Mashed Potatoes," which, as I recall, nearly filled up the entire "B" side of one of his albums. If you had an underprivileged adolescence and never heard this classic, here are the lyrics as near as I can remember:

[minute or two of guitars and drums]
[another minute or two of guitars and drums]
[another minute or two of guitars and drums]
[another minute or two of guitars and drums. Be patient! Vocals coming up soon!]
[another minute or two of guitars and drums. Almost there. I promise.]
[another minute or two of guitars and drums. OK! Here they come!!!]
"Got mashed potatoes". [pause]
"Got mashed potatoes". [pause]
"Ain't got no T-bone". [pause]
"Ain't got no T-bone". [pause]
[Another 20-25 minutes of jamming]
[End of song. Would you like to hear it again?!?]
