[history]
Iraq may prove to be the big star at tonight's Grammy awards, broadcast live at 8 p.m. on CBS from Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Contrary to rumor, the network will not attempt to silence any anti-war statements from singers, songwriters, musicians and assorted artistes as they parade onstage to accept the nation's most coveted music awards.

They should ban all handguns, bodyguards, security personnel, posses, etc. And advertise it as such far and wide. Let the celebs practice what they preach.

"Police said event staff will include a number of officers working counterterrorism," Newsday reported Friday. "Among them will be highly visible 'Hercules' unit officers, equipped in protective gear and carrying submachine guns."Oh, brother. Why would terrorists want to kill their most ardent supporters?

Oh, brother. Why would terrorists want to kill their most ardent supporters? Because the females are dressed like Jennifer Lopez.

Why would terrorists want to kill their most ardent supporters? My thoughts exactly. Why would any terrorist destroy one of his best weapons?
To: Texas Eagle
Regardless of the political leanings of tonight's Grammy nominees, the New York City Police Department is ready. An 800-member security force will be on hand to look after the stars and glitterati. To me it sounds like they're saying "Even though the communists in Hollywood are standing firm with Saddam, our boys will be ready to put their lives on the line to protect these traitors."

Because the females are dressed like Jennifer Lopez.
Whoa, wait a minute. Are you suggesting that one of the things terrorists despise most about America is the sluttily dressed women that make up the vast majority of its music industry?
To: kattracks
"While this is first and foremost entertainment, we're also in a country built on free speech," he continued. "Sometimes it can make for some unpredictable moments."
Unpredictable? I think what will happen is very predictable. I will email CBS and let them know I'll forego their little Love Saddam fest. Please join me.

Well, it's certainly CBS's prerogative to make that decision. OTOH, any performer who feels they must speak out on Iraq during these non-partisan ceremonies should consider whether his or her statements are really accomplishing nothing more than supporting Saddam Hussein's dictatorship while hurting the Iraqi people.

Yes!
To: kattracks
If this does happen during the program - I hope there are more than just a few who will get up and walk out.

Do you think the sluttily dressed women who come to the defense of terrorists even realize that they play a major role in why terrorists hate America in the first place?
To: kattracks
Just once in my life I would love to see a major backlash against these performers. How great would it be if turnstiles were off, and CD sales tanked.
To: kattracks
It is not the anti-USA crap they spew that would stop me from watching. It is the stupid music!!!!! Other then Norah Jones, I will stick too Right-Wing hate radio.
To: kattracks
I almost never watch the Grammy Awards anyway...

Bring them on. The more the better. They will get the sound bites and Mr. and Mrs. Normal American can see them for the fools they are.

You are going to miss this performance by Sheryl Crow (words by me) sung to the tune of "All I Wanna Do"
lyrics start -------
Hit it!
This ain't no disco
It ain't no country club either
This is Iraq!
'All I wanna do is kill an Iraqi kid before I die,'
Says the man next to me out of nowhere
It's apropos of nothing (like most things I say)
He says his name's Osama but I'm sure
He's Saddam or Mommar or Jacques or Gerhard
And he seems wonderful to me
And I wonder if he's ever done a jihad in his whole life
We are drinking camel-piss at noon during Ramadan
In a cave that faces a giant Islamic Mosque
The good Muslims of the world are killing the children
On their prayer break, beating and gassing
As best they can in burquas and funny hats
They drive their pre-sanction Jeeps and mobile labs
Back to the prisons, and the hidden weapons labs too
Well, they're nothing like Osama and me, cause
[Chorus]
All I wanna do is kill a kid
I got a feeling I'm not the only one (Susan Sarandon)
All I wanna do is kill another kid
I got a feeling I'm not the only one (Tom Daschle)
All I wanna do is waste a generation of kids (Hollywood, will you help me)
Until the moon comes up over Saddams big new Palace #1
I like a good bomb blast early in the morning
And Osama likes to peel the fingernails
From the children of his subjects
He cuts them into little pieces
Then he throws every piece into an oversized vat
Letting each one disappear into the acid
before shooting and cursing the guards
- And he's watching the vats of Anthrax as they spin in the lab
And a UN inspector enters the palace
Dangerously far from his Iraqi minder
The soldier looks up from his death manual
Chorus
Oh crap, incoming
(blessed silence)

Well, several people did leave during the last awards show (I never pay attention to these things...so I can't remember which...LOL! Emmys maybe?).
Anyway, maybe we should take bets on which artists/genre will get up and leave. My bets...country and heavy metal...although I'm not sure about Eminem (sp?)...is he somewhat conservative?
