I agree with you that the college kids are just punks, but many of the kids that same age don't go to college. You can see them loitering in various places. Those kids are not peaceful hippies, I'm not afraid of them myself, but if my mother lived up here, and they were bugging her, I get pretty upset.

You're correct, there is the "street" contingent who are "homeless" or "on the street" by choice and finance their choice of "lifestyle" by panhandling and petty crime. The ones up here must find the cost of living more affordable than Telegraph Ave. in Berzerkley. But again, where do you find them gathered in any numbers except in Arcata and Old Towne Eureka? I guess I could be out of touch since they never bother me. Then again, I'm six feet and 220 with a burr haircut. I don't expect your mom would make the same impression on them. ;)
