At sea aboard USS Kearsarge (LHD3) Feb. 18, 2003 -- Aerographer’s Mate 3rd Class John Reed updates a status board to track the ship’s Landing Craft Air Cushions (LCACs). The LCACs from Assault Craft Unit Four (ACU-4) are transporting elements of the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade (2nd MEB) to a port in Kuwait to support Operation Enduring Freedom. At sea aboard USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) Feb. 20, 2003 -- A Pre-Aimed Calibration (PAC) test-fire is conducted on a Close in Weapons System (CIWS) to check the gun’s bore alignment. CIWS is primarily used for air defense against missile and aircraft threats. Carl Vinson is currently conducting operations in the Pacific Ocean.
