N. KOREAN GROUND TROOPS CROSSED OVER DMZ INTO SOUTH AT SAME TIME AS JET INCURSION (Developing)
Fuji News Network, Tokyo (TV) in Japanese ^ | 21 February 2003 | AmericanInTokyo (based on FNN News)

Posted on 02/20/2003 9:17:34 PM PST by AmericanInTokyo

This is just developing as of 11:20 p.m. tonight, Eastern Time, February 20th. (It is already February 21 in Asia).

This developing story apparantly is not on any major English outlets yet.

Fuji Television Network in Japan (FNN) reports with a headline that it has been revealed that yesterday's dangerous and provocative incursion by a North Korean MIG-19 figher jet into South Korean airspace across the DMZ and over the Yellow Sea, occurred at the approximate same time as another, separate incursion by some (did not specify how many) North Korean Korean People's Army ground troops, also into South Korea across the DMZ (read: "Military Demarcation Line").

It is assumed from the Fuji article that the KPA troops returned to the North.

The timing of course is most significant in terms of revealing intentions.

The link above is to the Fuji TV newspage in Japanese, whereby a link to "News" can be found, and this article is the most recent headline under breaking news.

That would help to explain the sudden drop in the Nikkei 225 and I can't wait to watch gold going into this weekend and the next one. Nothing boring about this story, that's for sure...

It is unclear from this Japanese headline whether 'singular' or 'plural' in terms of the KPA violation. They used the Japanese word for both 'soldier' and 'soldiers' (heishi), but my impression was that it was perhaps a multiple foray, perhaps not very far, and brief.

The air incursion at the same time yesterday, itself, was brief and saw the errant NK aircraft in 7.8 kilometers into the South. But it was enough for five F-5e's to scramble and missile defense to be activated in the Western part of the country near the action.

Not to worry! FOX is reading FR and hoping to verify the sources first.

MiG 19's? Those should be an easy target for our fighters, especially the new ones. An F-16 Tomcat can blow them out of the sky with little to no effort. The troops on the ground, that's another story. We could take them out in the dark, and nobody would be the wiser, if we cleaned up the mess. This is easy.

I must emphasize clearly that while the story on this is developing, for sure; nevertheless the provocative Korean Peninsula 'event' --or rather, 'events'--occured YESTERDAY.
