Rick Kaplan is a major-league FOB, and openly admits he ordered stories to be slanted to make Clinton look good when he ran CNN.

This is a virtual guarantee that war coverage on ABC will be virulently anti-Bush. Mark my words.

Internal ABC email, via Drudge:
I've asked Rick Kaplan to come back and oversee Special Events coverage for the next three months. This looks to be a particularly busy time for all of us covering the news. He's proven his ability at producing and overseeing live television news coverage.

He's eager to get back in the game, and he can add his skill and experience to our exceptional team. He will report to me and have an office off of the newsroom floor at TV-3. Please join me in welcoming Rick on his return.

David Westin

"TV-3" is the main newsroom/tv studio at ABC HQ, the one you see Peter Jennings in every evening on "World News Tonight."

Kaplan was a frequent guest of the Lincoln Bedroom in the 90's.

I've stayed away from all ABC news programming for the last few years. After all, this is the network that orders anchors not to wear U.S. flag lapel pins, wouldn't let Toby Keith sing his patriotic song on their Fourth of July special and has an arrogant Canadian high-school dropout anchoring its evening news.

If war breaks out, I'll mainly watch: Fox News Channel (for the true story of what's going on), CBS (for the entertainment value of watching Dan Rather tear up on cue and get fooled by Howard Stern prank phone calls) and CNN (to see if we bomb any "baby-milk" factories).

Way back when I hand typed into FR a little sidebar that I saw in the Chicago Tribune and nowhere else.

It was a 'profile piece' on Kaplan, very short, that told how when Castro was in NYC (if I recall correctly) to speak to the UN, Kaplan was dining with Castro and suggested to Castro that they give Clinton a call, just to see if he wanted to join them.

They tried to get through but Clinton couldn't be reached.

Imagine the specter of this boob engineering the US' recognition of Cuba. Over dinner.

Unreal. I believe had they reached Clinton that moron would have gone for it.
