Jones has a great voice. But my vote for "best voice" of all time goes to Richard Burton.

Oh, that's tough competition. Really tough. When I can't decide who's got the best voice, I'll err on the side of the American. Have you heard Jose Ferrer as Iago? So deliciously eeeeeeevil. "I hate the Mooooooor." Wonderful voice.

Richard Basehart had a good voice too. Did tons of documentaries when I was a kid.

I vote for Jesse Ventura's voice as the best. I think his voice is the main reason he won the governorship of MN. Leslie Nielsen and Steven Wright have underrated voices as well. But JEJ is definitely top-ten.

Back to JEJ... (this one from the "who cares?!?" dept.)

Once David Letterman had a top ten list of phrases that sound funny when spoken by James Earl Jones, then JEJ came out to read the list. Can't remember most of them, but one was "Neo-Synephrine".

I read somewhere that Burton did a play, and the audience kept asking him to do other things afterwards just to hear his voice. He finally had to stop because he ran out of memorized Shakespeare, so they got him a phone book and he read names.

A different voice from Jones'. Sharper, not quite as deep. And just a great arrogance with that accent. Anyway, though, they're tough to choose between. If you want someone to be the voice of God, though, its Jones. So maybe he gets an extra point for that.

All great voices ...

but watch Laurence Olivier narrate "The World at War" and you get chills down your spine.

It is great that James Earl Jones knows who's in the right here.

"Use the Force, George!"
