Why is it that people lose all sense of reasoning when they get in an airport?

I might say something UN-PC here.....but, have you spent much time around people like Ms. Wei-Hsuan? They aren't the best at "manners."

About 10 to 15 minutes lapsed between when Hsiung moved the table out of her way to pass through the gate and when security personnel realized it.

Forget about the clueless exchange student. Why aren't the security personnel facing jail and fines? Sounds to me like they're the ones who "lose all sense of reasoning when they get in an airport" and "have been living under a rock". And how did they finally "realize it" 10-15 minutes after the fact? Because bystanders kept hollering at them all that time that somebody had snuck through, and it finally registered?

Imagine if this person had been a terrorist -- would have just walked on through, gotten on a flight, and ... The al-Qaeda guys must be laughing their heads off when they read that we're going after the girl.

Huh? Actually, I've known quite a few Asian nationals who were here attending college. Most had better manners than the average U.S. citizen college student.

Private and public manners in densely populated Asian countries are two separate things. On the street it's rat eat rat (and in some restaurants human eat rat, of course. It tastes like chicken, by the way.) Visit Hong Kong to experience it first hand.

Actually, you are right....there's always some among all cultures who are ill-mannered.
