These are the "peace loving" Belgians, who refuse to go to war against Saddam, a man who hires special rapists for infants and small children.

Jeez Louise, can't somebody bribe a prison guard to look the other way for a few minutes and just give this MF a date with a shotgun at point blank range and be done with it?

To be fair to ordinary Belgians, they are very upset, disgusted, etc by this affair. That is why 300,000 of them marched in Brussels in 1998 (The "White March" mentioned in the article).

I lived in Brussles when all this happend. I saw the posters for the missing 8 and 9 year old girls. Being an Americna, I just assumed they were dead. But they weren't - they were alive and being regularly tortured, raped and finally starved to death; the authorites apparently knew and did nothing.

The escape in '98 was bad as well. There was speculation that it was allowed so he could be killed, but he wasn't.

Unfortunately, no death peanalty in Belgium.

They have this abomination as an oozing chancre--yet haughtily eschew action to eliminate Saddam the mass murderer.

Belgium = hypocrite.

Yes, indeed. Saddam with his rapists who specialize in infants and small children, is protected by Belgians, French and Germans.

But the Belgians are determined to bring Sharon of Israel to trial!!!!!

By the way, the article I posted here is a year old, but I thought it was a good idea to remind us of who we are dealing with "across the pond!"

Blair and New Europe seem to be the only ones left over there with any morals at all.

This article is a year old, but there has been no movement since then. The problem is that Dutroux was running a sort of child sex brothel, and men would come in to abuse the girls. Dutroux, who was quite an operator, secretly filmed these sex scenes - this was his insurance. So far (surprise! surprise!) not one man on Dutroux' videos has been identified or charged. Rumour says that they include the most prominent figures in European political, economic, church and civil circles.

Dutroux will die before he gets his day in court. They just can't allow him to speak, because he won't go down alone, he will say who was doing it, and he has the proof. And, over the last year, several more people connected to the case met with fatal accidents. The witness list is shortening.

If there are high ranking police involved in a paedophile ring, why hasn't this scum been found hanging in his cell?

I'd say your post is the most absurd sort of conspiracy rant ...

... except that this guy Dutroux has apparently really been in jail for nine years now and indeed has not been tried. How long does it take to collect the evidence and make a go/no-go decision? Spooky!

This article is a year old, but the subject was revived yesterday by the Jerusalem Post, in response to the Belgian's claim that they have a right to try Sharon for war crimes.

It's surprising that Dutroux hasn't been found dead in his jail cell, the method that clinton was so fond of.

Belgians are famous for their gourmet food, decadence, and corruption. They also have perhaps the worst record in Europe for colonial cruelty.

So maybe Dutroux is being protected from on high. What other explanation can there be for such a disgraceful chain of events? But one thing is certain - the entire credibility of the current reformist government of Guy Verhofstadt and Belgium's very reputation as a normal civilised country is on the line. Further delay is unacceptable.

Yes, I have read that rumour about the Belgium royals as well. There were some good threads on FR about this subject.

Of course this is the same justice dept that claims the authority to prosecute Israel's PM Sharon.

Did you notice that this guy was released after just three and a half years for "multiple child rape?"
I am no longer surprised at "old europe."

This is the crew that calls Pres Bush an out of control cowboy. Like what are they going to do about anything? Its not like they have a military.

You ask why Dutroux has not been found hanging in his cell. A good question. His continued life - when a series of potential witnesses have fallen over and died - is a puzzle. It seems quite likely that Dutroux took out "insurance". He must have some way, still, of threatening those whom he has a hold over. Presumably, if he died, certain choice tapes would be released to the public.

In Australia, there was a case of police corruption/pedophile rings in New South Wales. But it never did get to court because ... what do you know? All the accused, and the witnesses against them, suddenly got depressed and killed themselves!

Vade - it is a ridiculous conspiracy rant - and yet ... it is also true. I won't start on the series of judges and police officers who dealt with Dutroux over the years, and never seemed to want him behind bars. And also his house in the country, where the new owners found bones in the basement ... But the Belgian police took the remains away, and said that they are unnconnected to the case. So that's all right then.

Whenever I read stuff on the Dutroux case, I think it is like one of those rather lurid novels - not a bad read. But of course real life can't be like that - I hope. But, unlike a novel, this story has no conclusion.
