Saddam has Chirac on retainer. Literally. He owns him.I assume you say that mostly in jest, but I'm beginning to wonder just exactly what IS going on with this moron. He's getting waaaaaayyy out there. Yes, I know France is a little joke-pissant-peonish and self-aggrandizing affront to statehood, but this guy is getting too far out there even in that context. It's really looking not like he objects to us going to war with Iraq--more like he's terrified for us to go to war with Iraq. Or maybe I've just underestimated the idiocy of the French.

Do you have another explanation?
In 2001 a Paris appeals court threw out a subpoena for Chirac to testify whether he accepted bribes while he was Mayor of Paris. Two of Chirac's personal assistants were indicted. The last Gaullist President, Gisgard, accepted tens of millions of dollars in bribes from the African dictator Bokassa.
