D.C. Police: Bystanders Didn't Aid Victim

WASHINGTON (AP) -- District of Columbia police have released a videotape showing witnesses doing nothing to help a man after he was fatally shot at a gas station.

"That's just one of the worst things I've ever seen," said Police Chief Charles H. Ramsey. "There just aren't words to describe something like that."

Police said the station surveillance video showing the Jan. 31 slaying of Allen E. Price is disturbing because it not only shows the crime, but the apathy of those who were there, including one man who continued pumping kerosene after looking briefly at Price's body.

Not only did the man finish pumping his kerosene, but paid for it and drove off, giving the camera its clearest look at Price lying on the ground. That customer has not been found.

The camera also recorded several cars pulling away from the station after the shooting, with at least one car pulling up to the kerosene pump beside Price after he was shot.

Police also interviewed dozens of people on a passing city bus but no one saw anything.

Police have no motive or suspects.

I saw this on the news, it was 20 minutes after the shooting that someone dialed 911 about it.

Shades of the Kitty Genovese case. The bystander who refuses to save an innocent person is as though he shed his blood. No wonder Dante reserves a circle in Hell for those who remained neutral in their lives.

It's a Democrat jurisdiction. The state is supposed to protect and serve; the people are supposed to gape mutely at their betters in government employ. It sounds as if things went smoothly.

"It sounds as if things went smoothly."

Some may take your comments to be calloused or insensitive, but you are so right. These people are now the sheep, at the mercy of wolves and many don't even realize what has happened to them or why.

You pump the kerosene into a container to take home and use in a kerosene heater. It's dispensed just like gas.

That is funny.

Pretty bleak picture of society.
