I once owned a Martini chambered in .22 rimfire. It was a surplus target rifle.

It was very possibly the most accurate rifle I have ever owned.

It was of course way too big for a .22 (this one was built on the full size action) but it would put those little .22's into one slightly enlarged hole time after time at 25 yards.

I don't even know if the Martini even had rifling during Kipling's era. I do know that the .22 rimfire wasn't around when he was in India.
