There's a link to the pending legislation search page... Look it up under "S 22". It also allows you to read all of the "riders", like Our Lady of Peace Act(to make the current gun shows illegal) and other disastrous legislation. After that take a look at S 45, or H.R. 3598, both pending, as well...

NAPOLITANO: Well… none of this has been proposed. It was just leaked over the weekend. It is an 80-page document.

S.22 Justice Enhancement and Domestic Security Act of 2003 (Introduced in Senate)

That's the title.

There's not much similarity between the two.
The greatest similarity between S 22 and the memo is that neither one is a proposal by AG Ashcroft!

Here are the sponsors of S 22:

Sen Biden Jr., Joseph R. - 1/7/2003 [DE]
Sen Boxer, Barbara - 1/9/2003 [CA]
Sen Clinton, Hillary Rodham - 1/7/2003 [NY]
Sen Corzine, Jon - 1/7/2003 [NJ]
Sen Dayton, Mark - 1/7/2003 [MN]
Sen Durbin, Richard J. - 1/7/2003 [IL]
Sen Kennedy, Edward M. - 1/7/2003 [MA]
Sen Leahy, Patrick J. - 1/7/2003 [VT]
Sen Mikulski, Barbara A. - 1/16/2003 [MD]
Sen Murray, Patty - 1/7/2003 [WA]
Sen Reed, Jack - 1/7/2003 [RI]
Sen Sarbanes, Paul S. - 2/3/2003 [MD]
Sen Schumer, Charles E. - 1/7/2003 [NY]

I hope some Freepers are more concerned about ACTUAL proposed legislation than they are about unproposed legislation.

Maybe if we lie and tell them S 22 IS a proposal by Ashcroft they would be concerned about it LOL!

This bill is quite a grab-bag, isn't it? Something for every statist, Republican or Democrat!

Please defend this bill. I would like to see a defense other than :

1. It hasn't been proposed. It has.

2. You guys just hate Ashcroft. We don't. We are concerned about freedom in this country and government expansion. Ashcroft has, however, proved to be no friend of the Constitution during his brief tenure as AG.

3. What you're saying is in the bill isn't really there. Explain to us how these infringements aren't in the bill when they are right there in plain view.

Additionally, I would like answers to a few questions. I want your honest answer to these.

1. Janet Reno introduces the same bill or "proposal." Do you defend her? Why or why not?

2. A corrupt administration follows Bush's administration. The new administration is made up of left wing, conservative hating Democrats. Should they have the powers outlined in this bill as well? You trust them not to abuse this power?

Thank you in advance for your prompt reply.

Ashcroft hasn't proposed a bill. That is just a fact.

It is a fact mentioned in the articles about it, articles which you said you had "seen". Please "read" those articles!

In it's present state the draft proposals TO Ashcroft are unacceptable.
Approximately half of the suggestions are reasonable, a quarter are debatable and a quarter are plainly stupid and wrong.
IF Ashcroft offered it in it's present state he would be wrong.

But, contrary to assertions of those who wish to criticize Ashcroft at any cost to intelligent discussion, he hasn't proposed these suggestions to be legislation.

Question: Does the Patriot Act have a sunset clause?

That's what I'd heard...and that's what I'm hoping.

I'm fearful of a day when Hillary Rodham becomes president and she has all these tools at her disposal.

Best Regards,
