If city cops are on edge, they have got good reason. Law Enforcement and city hosptials have been told that the thread of a cynaide attack or something similar is an immediate danger here in New York City.
Hospitals across the city are keeping an eye on this new terror warning because of the specific language that the city health department is using. They are talking about a possible cynaide gas attack. All the hospitals in the city are now on 'Code Red' high alert.
George Tenet CIA Director: [This Threat] 'It points to a plot to occur at the end of the Hajj, which occurs late this week.'
The Hajj runs through Saturday and so the NYPD has increased the number of officers on counterterrorism assignments from 1,000 to more than 1,400.The health department notified hospitals it has mass antidotes on hand for cynanide and nerve gas poisining.

Well I got this e-mail today from a reputable source:
I am probably the last person to cause unnecessary panic, however I have been given information that I though would be useful to you and let you do with it what you want. I have a friend who works for a NY State politician. He emailed me today to let me know that I should "please take the subways as little as possible between now and the 19th." I pressed him as to what he had heard that others may not have heard, and he replied that "the JOINT Terrorism Task Force met with the City DAs today. They indicated that there is a real and credible threat to the subway system. They also indicated that if a bio attack occurs they will seal all stations affected and not allow anyone out."
You may want to (and tell loved ones to) take cabs or walk instead of taking the subways for a little while...

Wow. Can you imagine being locked down in the subway????

Not a very nice situation. To be sealed in or being one of the "sealers".

The thing is, I don't know if my cousin in NYC got this info in the news, some talk show host, or etc. I was just curious if anyone has heard of this.

Remember how the anonymous sniper in DC literally paralyzed the whole Capital Region w/ panic a few months ago. Don't you think alQaida and even Iraq studied that from a distance with no shortage of interest?
Our enemies who are inside our very borders tonight, may be trying for this psyops war, even before we begin the war on Iraq, hoping it will wear down our will to fight, erode support for the war, and hoping Americans would be shallow crybabies and weak enough to turn on President Bush for it. (Of course, shameless Democrats would come out and start such nonsense).
We better really batten down the hatches. And we better demand absolute LOYALTY from every federal and state officeholder, liberal Democrat or otherwise, and tell them NO BS, shut up, don't even think of playing politics, and support the Republic.

The health department notified hospitals yesterday it has antidotes on hand for cyanide and nerve gas poisoning.
Again I ask Ewing who posted this article, please explain where the word "mass" came from. It doesn't appear in the article on your link. It's important for posting correctness, but also because FReepers are trying to ascertain if they are expecting widespread problems.

Florida Plant Reported Used to Export Cyanide 09/18/1990
-
DALLAS (AP) The Iraqi architect of a Libyan chemical weapons complex invested $5 million in a Florida cherry flavoring plant in an apparent bid to export cyanide to the Middle East, a newspaper reported in Sunday's editions.
Two former associates said deceased financier Dr. Ihsan Barbouti used the Boca Raton plant to establish a front through which he could export deadly hydrogen cyanide and the technology to produce it in quantity, The Dallas Morning News reported.
The former associates said Barbouti sought to export the poison to Middle East countries identified by the U.S. government as supporters of terrorism. Barbouti acknowledged contracts with Iraq and Iran, they said.
Barbouti has been identified in Western news reports as the architect of Libyan Col. Moammar Gadhafi's chemical weapons plant in Rabta. He died July 1 in London on lung and heart complications, according to his death certificate. He was 63.
A federal lawsuit filed in Oklahoma City in 1989 claims that Barbouti schemed to take over TK-7 Corp., an Oklahoma City fuel additive manufacturer, so he could have a licensed source of chemicals for diversion the Rabta plant. The 1 lawsuit, filed by TK-7 president Moshe Tal, is still pending.
The president of the Florida flavoring plant said he had no role in the diversion of any toxic material, but acknowledged that at least 150 gallons of a cyanide compound was unaccounted for. The cyanide was a byproduct of a process used to extract bitter almond oil, a concentrate for cherry flavoring, from apricot pits.
The cyanide could have been taken from Product Ingredient Technology Inc. without his knowledge, Louis S. Champon said.
"My feeling is that it was his intention to ship out (cyanide) to overseas," Champon said.
Peter Kawaja, whose company installed a $1 million security system at the plant, said the cyanide was removed during "night trips" to another site in Florida he declined to identify.
"Shipments have left the U.S. and technology has left the U.S.," said Kawaja. "We're talking about the research and development of chemical weapons in the United States."
Kawaja declined to identify the final destination of the potentially lethal chemical.
The newspaper said U.S. Customs and the FBI have accelerated their investigation of Barbouti's role in the flavoring plant since Iraq's invasion of Kuwait last month. They are examining his vast holdings in Dallas, Houston, Oklahoma City, New Orleans, Tennessee, New Jersey and New York.
The federal agencies declined comment.
"If there's an ongoing investigation, we're not going to comment on it. Those are attorney general's guidelines ... I'm not confirming that there is an investigation. I don't know if there is or there isn't," FBI spokesman Jeffrey W. Maynard told The Associated Press on Saturday.
The Central Intelligence Agency also refused to discuss the investigation.
"We decline to comment at this time. I would say, though, that if there is any indication or intelligence of hostile activities we would bring that to the attention of the appropriate law enforcement authorities," CIA spokesman Peter Earnest told the AP.
Customs Service spokesman Cliff Stallings in Miami said Saturday that he had been in Washington last week and was unaware of the case.
"You can quote me saying if it's under investigation, then we won't talk about it," he said.
Barbouti's holdings are 1 controlled by his son, Haidar Barbouti, who lives in New York City. The younger Barbouti has been president and director of 20 to 30 of his father's companies.
There was no answer at Barbouti's Manhattan residence or at the Barbouti holding company, IBI Industries Inc., Saturday.
Champon said he has filed a lawsuit to sever his business ties with the Barbouti family. Champon said he and Barbouti often quarreled about disposal of the waste cyanide and that Barbouti's funding "stopped when we flatly refused to send out any cyanide complex."
"Dr. Barbouti many, many times mentioned that he wanted this cyanide ... shipped to Germany," Champon said of the cyanide waste from the plant.
And according to Kawaja and Champon, the Barboutis asked the plant's architect to computerize the blueprints of the operation without Champon's knowledge.
"They were trying to steal the plans," Champon said.

'Cyanide attack' foiled in Italy
"Italian police say they have arrested four Moroccans who were planning a chemical attack in Rome, targeting buildings which included the United States embassy.
The four men, aged between 30 and 40, were detained on Tuesday in a dawn raid on a flat in the Tor Bella Monaca area in the south of the Italian capital. The news did not emerge until early on Wednesday.
They were discovered to be in possession of a powdered cyanide-based substance, maps marking the capital's water supply network, as well as a hoard of false documentation and Islamic extremist propaganda, officials said.
It is suspected that they were intending to poison the water supplies in a commercial area of the capital where the US embassy is located.
"The speculation is that we were a target," a spokeswoman at the embassy in Rome told BBC News Online. "We'll be discussing the matter with Washington today."
The four kilos of the substance in the possession of the four Moroccans is reported to be sufficient to poison the water supply of an entire neighbourhood, and cause dozens of deaths.
Terror links
The BBC's Frances Kennedy in Rome says there is mounting speculation that the men are linked to Osama Bin Laden's terrorist al-Qaeda network. ..."

I hate to say it, and it will be sad, but I swear if there is so much as a committed attack by teams of Middle Eastern islamists around the nation in the next few hours, days or weeks, I'm afraid that probably not one single mosque would be left standing on American soil. I just know that is in many American people and the wrath would by and large be unstrained (and maybe even illogical, unfortunately.)
