You say "mirror image" is hyperbole, but in the next breath you admit we've been "pushing democracy and freedom around the world".

And it's always our vision of what "democracy" and "freedom" are. It's this myopia and cocksure conviction that every other society on earth is ready for our version of these abstract concepts that has earned us the hatred of so many.

And Mr. Rinfret's point elsewhere on his site of bringing these reports to people high in the U.S. government and having them arrogantly brushed aside is well-taken too.

I rather think that it's been our support of dictatorships as in Iraq, Afganistan, Saudi Arabia and other countries since WWII which makes us unpopular. Few are claiming that what we did for Japan, Britain, Germany and South Korea was wrong.
