OSCAR Snubs Judeo-Christian Values: Animated Feature Film Nominees Ignore "Jonah" Film
Oscars.com ^

The nominees for the Oscars, 40 days away, have been named. A relatively new category awards an Oscar for the best animated feature film. Here are the nominees for this year:

ANIMATED FEATURE FILM

ICE AGE
LILO & STITCH
SPIRIT: STALLION OF THE CIMARRON
SPIRITED AWAY
TREASURE PLANET

Well, there you have it. A complete snub of Big Ideas "Jonah: A Veggietales Movie", arguably one of the most successful animated features of the year. With the exception of Ice Age or Lilo & Stitch, it probably grossed more than the rest of these films.

But Hollywood doesn't seem to want to acknowledge the existence of Judeo-Christian values in their awards ceremony. Instead they choose to recognize a lame rip-off of a 19th-century novel that failed miserably. Nice move, Oscar.

I hate to disagree...I took my kid to see Jonah, we were all excited. It redefined the meaning of the word "suck". When my kid, who would be a total couch potato if I let her, wanted to leave in the middle saying "Daddy, this isn't very good", you know its bad. And the only "Judeo-Christian" value it preached was "Be Nice to Other People". Heck, even the atheists believe that. Jonah in no way deserved an Oscar nomination.

Why didn't MONSTERS INC make the list? That movie was great! STALLION OF THE CIMMARRON was beyond suckful.

I followd this movie's daily box office numbers from day one and they were sadly not very good.

For an overtly Christian movie they were good, but not for a typical animated feature.

I loved it think it was very good and will be wildly popular as a home video.

It makes sense that the movie gets no Oscar recognition because the subject matter is not popular with the "in" crowd in hollywood.

It also was a little sub-par in the quality department - but that only makes sense given the low budget of the producers.

Oh, I have to disagree. My kids loved it. They were dancing up and down during the big angel scene in the whale's tummy. I thought the animation was fantastic, and like all Veggie Tales movies, the moral lessons are placed throughout the show.

Lilo and Stich, otoh, sucked.

You are right. The horse movie was so bad that I turned it off 20 minutes into the DVD.

Meh, I long ago quit worrying about the OSCARS, just hollyweird coming together to pat each other on the back and say how great they are. Plus the most deserving nominees very rarely win, last year was different with Denzel.

And they snubbed the Omega Code back in '99.

....maybe because it wasn't very good?

You don't really expect the Oscars to reflect movie quality, do you?

Generally if it makes "Best Picture" I know it's a dog. A couple of examples come readily to mind - "Terms of Endearment" - the only movie I ever walked out of, and "Dances With Wolves", a film astounding for the droning monotony of it's "dialogue".

The Oscar people don't pick for quality.

Omega Code? That sucked eggs big time. A real stinkeroo... and so was the follow-up movie.

Please, calm down. I think there is an easier explanation for this: "Johah" just wasn't very good!! The animation--compared to the others on the list--was not very sophisticated, the story dragged, the jokes were lame and the theological message (as if Hollywood cared) was off the mark. And this opinion is from someone who LIKES Veggietales videos.
