Chips in the hand or forehead is an eventuality... I should know because I work for a company that is trying to develope such an item. Why? Look at the advantages: No more printed money (hence no counterfeiting to worry about). In fact no need at all to carry money--chip can be scanned as easily as a debit card. Chip also will carry all medical information for persons needing immediate medical attention, all personal information (arrest history, etc.) so police and other officials know immediately about persons in custody (instant check). Chip will prove instant citizenship and will be a useful tool for employers in considering new hires.

I'm not saying I advocate such an item but it's coming and we might as well get used to it!

And for those of us who Refuse to comply? are we guilty of some sort of crime? Jail? I will NEVER comply to this. I will also never assimilate to big brother type antics. I find it horrifying that you think we should all just get use to the idea and not even bat an eye. IF this were to pass and be required will you still think the US of A is a "FREE NATION"?

This being said what is to stop people from chip stealing? Murder for a chip, cutting off hands and such for "chips". How will your company stop the chip theft? Chip copying? will all NON chip members have to go under ground? What you propose is horrific, and I for one will NEVER "get use to it".

Accepting that premise then you can get used to this; a vast underground network of resistors, widespread civil war and extreme guerilla war tactics.

If I need a chip to get from here to there or to make a purchase or whatever I'll simply carve it out of someone else's forehead. Most likely someone who thinks this is a good idea.

And if you choose not to use it? It smacks of the old One World Order, 666 stuff to me.

"...wemight as well get used to it."

I promise you, that if this passes, there will be groups of patriots who will put you out of a job shortly.

And you can just get used to that.

Can I assume that this post is tongue-in-cheek? Can I also assume that you are a Brit because you spelled develop as develope, unless that's a typo.

The name of the game here is privacy. If there is a cashless society, all aspects of your life can be tracked. Everytime you make a purchase at the supermarket or pay a doctor bill or have a prescription filled, etc. Big Brother will have the means to find out. That also means that Big Brother can shut you down. You won't be able to buy a quart of milk if you're contesting something with, for example, the IRS. I went through that experience a number of years ago with the IRS. I was contesting something with them (self-employed at the time) and they illegally froze all of my bank accounts and instructed my clients to direct any monies owed me to them. I fortunately had just received a large check from one client, which I cashed, and agreed not to invoice them until the matter was straightened out. I have a good accountant and he convinced the IRS that they were operating illegally. They released all of my accounts and informed my clients that they could pay me when I invoiced. This all took about three weeks. I was lucky.

Now meandog, et. al. Do you really want to give up your freedom and privacy? Do you really want to cave into the whims of government driven by the crisis du jour. We are in tough times but there are many other steps that could be taken other than this ID idea. INS is a mess, for example, and should be better equipped to follow up on those people whose visas have expired. The borders should be tightened to prevent the influx of illegals. Ports and harbors should be much better patrolled and monitored. None of these measures is easy, but they are all doable.

Think it through, meandog. Your kind of thinking, or arguably lack of scares the sh*t out of me.

You might also want to consider a job change.
