Bring back the Duchy of Bretagne (Brezhoneg) and the Holy Roman Empire...surely with this flair for disagreeing, they could be persuaded to disband into 300+ states so they could always have someone to disagree with...

Murdoch is more conservative than most media moguls, but he's also concerned about his business. That's presumably why he backed Labour--because at that juncture the Tories were absolutely hopeless.
Incidentally, he also backed Al Gore. He paid the expenses of the Dem Convention and backed Gore all summer and fall up to election day. Then the day after he switched over to Bush.
Presumably his reasoning was that clinton had been putting the screws to him for eight years, and he didn't want Al Gore doing the same for another eight years, which was probably his best calculation of the likely election results. In other words, he'd rather back the Republicans or the Conservatives, but not when they are in losing mode.

It's time the US formed a new organization that consists of our true allies. Pull all support and equipment from NATO and the UN and put it into the new alliance.

The irony of all this is that the french are doing this to appear to be flex their own muscle, but what they are really doing is flexing OUR muscle. Without our troops there scaring the hell out of Saddam he would never accept anything the french purpose. If we leave the french plan will fall apart because they have no power of thier own to enforce anything.
I am still betting they will vote for war, but only after they make sure everyone pays a little attention to them first.

Didn't France pull out of Nato in 1966?Yes. But unfortunately they've lost a lot of class since then.
