I suggest that the bombing start as much as a week BEFORE the moonless night.
The moonless night should be reserved for the first night of ground action.
The cruise missiles and bombers never know what time of day/night it is.
The ground soldiers are the ones who need the darkness of a moonless night.
Think about it.
