The Greenbrier is a really cool place to stay, if you can afford it. Lots of activities -- golf, tennis, shooting, riding, swimming inside in a great indoor pool, hiking and biking, and the food is really good.

It is built over hot springs so has a really nice indoor spa, too. Massage, manicure, the whole nine yards.

Businesses love to have conferences there. Not much to do in the neighboring community, but there's no reason to leave.

Greenbriar..also has its own stop on the Cardinal (the old C&0 line from Newport News Va. to Chicago).

The train now leaves Charlottesville and goes through the tunnel under the crest of the Blue Ridge. It follows the Greenbriar river gorge on its way to Cincinatti.

You can get off the train at the Greenbriar.

-----
The Greenbriar's theme is 'wbite painted brick' (whereas the rival Homestead resort in Virginia is red painted brick. If any construction or additions are made at the Greenbriar, the red brick is painted white immediately - before dawn, if necessary, so red brick is never seen.
