WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Secretary of State Colin Powell said Sunday a French and German proposal for additional weapons inspectors would not solve the standoff with Iraq, saying it was now time for the U.N. Security Council to "go into session and find whether or not serious consequences are due at this time."
Speaking on the "Fox News Sunday" program, Powell said he had not been presented with the reported proposal to boost the number of inspectors searching for weapons of mass destruction programs but that it was past time for such action. Iraq's leader Saddam Hussein has not complied with U.N. resolution 1441 passed in November that required Iraq to disarm or face "serious consequences," he said.
