Oh, sure, now that I've given up on working hard for a living (because all of my money got taken in taxes) and set myself up to live a modest lifestyle on savings, NOW they want to go and get rid of the income tax. To heck with that! I've finally got myself set up to beat their stinking game and now they want to go and CHANGE THE FREAKING RULES!

AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!

So now my savings will get eaten up twice as fast (once the price of everything DOUBLES when this tax is imposed, you just wait and see) and I'll have to go back to work anyway. Plus, they'll find to way to keep the income tax too! Just wait, you'll see. The government won't quit squeezin' until we're all singin' soprano.

Yeah, I am about ready to enjoy retirement after a lifetime of paying income tax. Now they want to stab me again. I thnk not. While I am in favor of getting rid of the income tax, it should be phased in. I don't feel like getting screwed twice. They need to make provisions for those of us that have already paid our dues.

Prices will neither rise nor fall due to the nrst. It is the competition in our markets that will ensure it.

BillyBob, I agree with you 100%. Millions of retirees will be slammed twice with a consumption tax. I say that a flat tax needs to be put in place. With NO exemptions or exclusions. You earn 'x' bucks, you pay 3,4,5% (whatever is needed to generate funds to run the fed gubbmint.) Also, what is also needed drastically is a check on gov't spending. Zero based budgeting was a good idea. Most folks would be outraged if they could read the federal budget line items and what each item costs.
