A Fitzwater Moment

Freepers,

Everyone was all a twitter about Colin Powell’s “Stevenson Moment” yesterday however; are we forgetting the significant possibility of experiencing a “Fitzwater Moment” today?

Back in the First Gulf War, only 28 hours elapsed between the violation of UN sanctions and the missiles flew over Baghdad. On January 16, Marlin Fitzwater uttered his famous sentence on national TV, “The liberation of Kuwait has begun”, and walked away from the cameras.

With every tick of the clock, Saddam has another second to relocate and protect his arsenal of death.

With every tick of the clock, Saddam has another second to build upon his stockpile of destruction.

With every tick of the clock, innocent citizens of the world are further at risk of terroristic annihilation by nuclear, biological and / or chemical agents unleashed by a despotic madman and his followers.

Yesterday, Colin Powell revealed to the world just a hint of what Saddam has in his treasure trove of mass mayhem. Powell described to what lengths Iraq has duped the inspectors and diplomats that Saddam has not disarmed in accordance to both the Gulf War cease-fire and numerous UN resolutions.

Today is Ronald Regan’s birthday. A President who stared down the Communist menace and reinstated a vigorous pride in America. How appropriate would it be if the missiles flew again over Baghdad on the birthday of the Greatest President of the Twentieth Century?

I imagine that Ari Fleischer is looking forward to filling Fitzwater’s shoes right about now…

Every tick of the clock increases Saddam's ability to strike back at our forces. For our soldiers' sake, I hope it's sooner rather than later. Today would be a good day.
