Please note that in a Pentagon briefing/press conference last week Rummy denied the substance of this story, in the context of dressing down the press for accepting gossip by underlings and not checking facts.
Rummy very emphatically asserted that Franks requested Abizaid. In fact he (Rumsfeld) felt Abizaid was needed were he was, and it was only persistent lobbying by Franks and Meyers that led to him approving the transfer.

Is this just another piece of disinformation, or did Rummy just appoint an Army Commander? This is in as Theater Commander, Army Commander, Corps, Division.
