This article says it this way for a reason. It doesn't say "invited to official briefings."
It says "present."
It is clear that this is a political "hit" taking place. Like Franks or not, this is no way to move someone aside. If you want him aside, just take the political heat and move him aside. Say you don't like his leadership style, that you have different visions, etc. How about just having the manhood to say you want to change?!!
But don't use this cheap trick.

Plus take into the fact that Gen Franks isn't a "ring" i.e. a West Point Grad. They take an evil eye to officers who come up through small college ROTC. Plus there are still some friends of the BIG DOG in the 5 sided building that resent the POTUS and the way to get at W is by getting the CENTCOM commander, who happens to be from the same town, Midland, Texas.
