Shuttle Cover-up? (kook alert)
NewsMax ^ | 02/03/03 | John LeBoutillier

There was one odd item in the Washington Post story Sunday about the shuttle crash. White House Chief of Staff Andy Card was up at Camp David with the president. They had originally planned to have British Prime Minister Tony Blair up there, but the foggy conditions prevented helicopter flights. So Friday afternoon the two leaders had their meeting in the White House residence instead. Then the Bush party went up to Camp David for the weekend.

Saturday morning, according to this story, Card was "watching NASA TV at Camp David when the accident occurred." He then immediately went over to Bush's cabin, Aspen, and told the president what happened.

The fact that the White House chief of staff is even watching the landing of a space shuttle on a Saturday morning - while at Camp David in the middle of the Iraq crisis - raises a big red flag.

Was he previously informed that NASA was worried about tile damage from the launch?

How much internal chatter about a risky landing was there?

Did NASA expect trouble on an otherwise routine landing?

How many other officials suspected trouble Saturday morning?

Did NASA tell the astronauts and their families of the extra risk with this landing?

These and many other questions are hanging in the air as NASA tries to figure out what happened.

It seems possible that right after the launch NASA officials grew worried that there may have been serious damage. Perhaps they then had high-level meetings about their worries and, as a potential CYA measure, informed Andy Card.

It is odd that the White House chief of staff would watch a shuttle landing. Such a routine event - early on a Saturday morning, in the midst of Blair, U.N. inspections, Colin Powell's upcoming intelligence revelations to the Security Council - seems to be something that a White House big shot would pay no attention to.

If he had a heads-up that something might have been amiss, then we need to be told. And it will come out - eventually.

Haven't we all learned that cover-ups are huge mistakes? It is always better just to square with the people.

NASA has a wonderful safety record over 40 years of manned space flight. They now need to also have a wonderful candor record.

How was the weather on Saturday noontime?

There was some. But then again....I think there's weather pretty much 24 hours a day.

We'll never get to the bottom of this until we find out who hired Craig Livingstone and how he managed to get NASA clearance.

The loonies at DU think that NASA and President Bush knew right after the launch that the shuttle was doomed. That along with many other comments and threads over there will make you wonder where these people came from. A large portion of them actually believe that President Bush knew the shuttle was doomed and purposfully let it explode on return for the expresss purpose of using the tragity to up his popularity and to distract the nation from Iraq.

In fact, minutes after the Shuttle tragedy they had threads over there talking about how horrible it was. But not because of the tragedy of the loss, but because Bush would be able to have a Reaganesque moment and use the tragedy go boost his popularity. Some even think it was planned for this purpose!

They truly are sickos over there who need serious mental health evaluations and treatment.

"I swear, with God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!"

The single funniest sitcom episode in the history of television.

IMHO

Please....Andy Card's watching NASA TV on an early Saturday morning at Camp David makes about as much sense as me watching NASA TV while I was on a business trip to Eureka, CA, back in October (an early morning broadcast then, too). It was the first time I'd seen NASA TV on a cable service, and I watched the return of the shuttle live. The fact is, I'm a space program nut, and gravitate toward that kind of information. On my return home, I wrote my cable provider and requested that they look into providing NASA TV to their customers.....Not everything that is weird to some is necessarily weird to others.

Author only demonstrates his own paranoia and lack of understanding of government operations.

WH, DOD, OPM, CIA, FAA, and many others routinely monitor all news, (regular nets, all 11 CNN feeds, FNC, MSNBC, Weather Channel, Bloomberg, BBC, Sky News, NHK, and many other 24/7 news feeds. They also monitor special feed channels, such as NASA Select, Limbaugh on radio, the network regional feeds, etc.

#1. It is a good pulse on the country and world,

#2. POTUS/CINC needs to know about anything important ASAP. Feeds are often best to find out.

This was entirely routine, and author knew it, or should have known it.

They think this way because this is the way their hero -- the Human Stain, Bill Clinton -- operated.

Tinfoil?

I've been looking for such stories. The UFO stuff is very weak so far, not up to the usual `quality.' ;)

But here's a sort of paranormal story:

Israeli Astronaut's Wife Says Daughter Had Premonition

"...Rona Ramon, spoke to the media for the first time since Saturday's tragedy.

"The only thing that haunts me now is that during the take off, while we were all in 'high', because it was such a wonderful and perfect event, my youngest daughter yelled 'I lost my daddy' and apparently she knew," Ramon said. "She is five years old. And that's the only thing that hurts."

You're so right. This maroon writer is grasping at some very thin straws to foment anger in his readers. He knows better, no doubt. He's just counting on the "stoopids" to jump on his scandal bandwagon.

How was the weather on Saturday noontime?

I think it was still misting then, but the weather didn't seem that bad to me (looking out the window of my apartment at the time, listening to the news of Bush being driven to the White House.) I left home in my car shortly after 1 PM, and had no trouble driving.

I suspect the whole excuse of the weather is a smokescreen for security reasons. Remember those "anthrax" searches in the Catoctin Mountains the past couple of weeks. Somebody commented on a thread about seeing F-16's headed in the direction of Camp David at the time of Bush's return. Bush got to Camp David somehow on Friday. Presumably he was driven. Why couldn't Blair go that way too?

Speaking of questions about Saturday morning, not only was Card allegedly watching NASA TV at Camp David around 9 AM. The Joint Chiefs were able to get together for a domestic incident meeting by 10 AM or so. I commented on a thread at the time how strange that seemed to me.

It's all coming together now - Bush, the shuttle, Phil Spector, and THIS STORY. It's all part of a pattern. What did they know and when did they know it?
