ANOTHER REASON NOT TO WATCH NETWORK TV

Last night I found myself in the unusual situation of actually watching some network television. When I turned the TV on it was tuned to some sitcom starring Ted Dansen. Well, I used to like Cheers and the writing seemed decent so I decided to give it a thought for a moment or two. Evidently Dansen plays a doctor. During one scene he is handing some teenage kid a bag of condoms. The kid tells Dansen’s character he isn’t really concerned about HIV because, after all, they have some sort of a cocktail that can cure that stuff. Dansen tells the kid that he’s reached a level of stupidity usually reserved for “Republicans and other lower primates.”

That was it. Changed channels … and won’t go back. Just an insipid gratuitous attack by another Hollywood leftie. The show is supposed to be for comedic entertainment, not political posturing. So … so long Ted.

Naw, I watch old movies and comedy on satellite. Stopped flipping through liberal commie channels long time ago. Feel better, sky is not falling anymore.

It never ceases to amaze me that with the political party support numbers being relatively equal in strength, that entertainers would offend half their audience. It shows both arrogance and business stupidity at the same time.

Yes, I did. I thought it was done well and it made the kid stop and think about have unprotected sex and the possible consequences and responsibilities that go along with it. Although, I dislike Ted Danson's politics and who he is married to; I do like his show. It's funny. The show that really turned me off and which, thankfully, I fell asleep during most of it; was Kingpin. That show really sucked and glorified crooks and just about everything else violent that you can think of. It also suggested that the son will grow up to be just like his father. I hope it doesn't last.

I don't understand it either. While I believe entertainers have the right, as we all do, to speak their minds on their political views (as long as they can take the heat) I do not understand why a network would boldly insult 1/2 of the American public.

I caught that one part -- and changed the channel as you did. Great stuff for kids to be watching at 8 pm, huh? Oh, and let's not forget the 4 pm and 5 pm timeslots when it goes out to syndication repeats.

I was always amazed that they chose Julia Roberts to play "Pretty Woman." She's not pretty. Her mouth is big enough to drive a truck through. These people are proof that looks are only skin deep, but ugly Liberalism goes clear to the bone.

If she said that as a private individual, she has the right to make an a$$ of herself. However, if she said the line in a movie/television show, you have to wonder why the money providers for the project would want to alienate 1/2 of their potential audience.

“Republicans and other lower primates.” is done well? Insulting 1/2 of the American population is done well? Guess we have a different concept of what is considered "well".

Best reason not to watch? My vote is Boston Public. The ad for the next show is about a teacher that sleeps with a married woman and is worried because her husband ....HAS GUNS (gasp). Where to start, so sad.

I didn't actually see the show, I got the information after reading Neal Boortz's site this morning and wondered if any other Freepers had seen it.

As for teaching about safe sex, I'm mixed on that. We taught my step-sons from the time they became very interested in girls how to protect themselves from unwanted pregnancy and of course to protect themselves against sexually transmitted diseases. The biggest lesson we taught them was that waiting until marriage was the best way to prevent both of those things.

I do not have a problem with the safe sex message being reinforced, I just wish the second part, of abstinence, was pushed as hard as using a condom.

Television is a moral-liberal industry, and as such they are out of tune with the average American. Certainly they are doing horrid damage to our culture, but image how this all plays overseas. The world's youth all want to emulate Americans and be like Americans and think like Americans, and there's Ted Dansen handing out condoms, and everyone believes that is the portrayal of America, but it is only a portrayal of moral-liberal America.

Well, I have to admit if my husband slept with another woman (who knew we were married) she would have to worry that I had guns, as would he!! (just kidding, I'd leave him not kill him). But I see exactly what you are saying.

According to the liberal mindset, guns are the root cause of all the evils of the world and they will attempt to push that belief on everyone. Unfortunately, the sheeple follow right along.

Yes it's "Becker" Sundays 8:00PM ET CBS.
I thought that Danson's character was supposed to be a non PC doctor who the liberals would upstage each show ( like almost every show does with a "conservative" character). The episode I saw was during the first season.

After hearing this, it took my wife about 3 seconds to hit the OFF button on the remote. Quote, "Well, that's another show I won't be watching anymore."

And then she picked up a book.

I'm more concerned with the youth of this country believing what they see on television then I am about the views of another country. I don't think radical Islamics would hate us any less if they didn't see our television/movies. Maybe it gives some a distorted view of us, but most IMO will make up their own reasons to hate Americans.

Good for her. I haven't watched any shows on network televison, outside of Football/Olympics and other sporting events (huge sports fan here). Unfortunately not enough people are turning away from the networks to make a difference.

Look at Katie Couric's morning program (I don't even know the name of it) complete liberal, Anti-Bush/Republican bias but it's #1 in the ratings last I heard.
