In a letter to the White House, Don Nelson, who served with NASA for 36 years until he retired in 1999, wrote to President George W. Bush warning that his "intervention" was necessary to "prevent another catastrophic space shuttle accident."

It was widely reported yesterday that NASA's budget was severely gutted during the Clinton administration. I believe it was reported that President Bush increased NASA's budget (but the phone rang and I missed that section). Additionally President Bush has had his hands full since 9/11.

Louis Stokes, emboldened by Clinton, referred to NASA as a white boys country club and refused support for it unless then enacted PC/racist policies of giving preference to miority business enterprises, i.e, those who can't cut it in the real world. Read this!

Also, practice still going on of these MBE, who can't meet the terms and conditions of contracting get a back door entry by these racist/PC managers who have risen in rank.

We need to clean it out like we are attempting to do with CIA and FBI. Overhaul.

Is there a bio on Don Nelson somewhere so that we can all see what his qualifications are. What positions did he hold. I'm sure there are some janitors that have worked for NASA for 30 years, that doesn’t make them experts.

I’m not discounting what this guy is saying, but we need some background and context to evaluate what he is saying.

These memo's are not unusual at NASA. It's always easy to dig up memos after the fact. They go on everyday. However, did any of the memo's address this particular issue...foam falling off ET and hitting critical carbon carbon tiles on leading edge, etc??? I doubt it. This is NOT a money or upgrade type problem. It's an issue with keeping that Foam ON the ET.
