On June 8, 1967, in one of the periodic explosions of violence we've learned to expect in the Middle East, an American intelligence ship named the USS Liberty was attacked with rockets, cannon fire and torpedoes while in international waters off the town of El Arish in the Sinai desert.
Thirty-four Americans were killed and 171 injured in what would remain the largest post-World War II loss of U.S. lives in the Middle East until the bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Beirut in 1983.
But unlike that latter attack, or the 1983 truck bombing of the Marine barracks in Beirut or the suicide bombing of the U.S. destroyer Cole in Aden, Yemen, which killed 17 less than three years ago, the attack on the Liberty was not made by terrorist bombs but by the jet fighters and torpedo boats of the nation of Israel.

"I fully respect Jewish people but ..." I don't know you, ... "BUT" ... my radar kicks in when I hear statements like "I fully respect < fill in the blank > ... but.
I am sure I am wrong and you really do "fully respect Jewish people" .........

Chill. Israel will end up getting 5 billion from us to repel the Jew killers. Your tax money goes to welfare bums. My tax money goes to help out Israel. Tons of Americans support Israel and feel just fine about us supporting them against the Islamics.
Do you have a figure for what we spend to protect South Korea and Saudi Arabia? I doubt you do 'cause you only care if Jews are involved.

I don't think the Israeli government resembles the jewish faith people that I know and seem to act like butchers compared...How can you say this after all the suicide bombings against Israel? You must be one of those who is only comfortable with Jews as nice victims and not fighting back. Got news for ya bud. The Jews of Israel are fully armed this time around. No repeat of WW2 this time around. If Arab Muslims want to make war then Israel will accommodate them.

Quite honestly I don't think I can "tell" you anything that would change your mind on the subject. Furthermore, I don't really have the desire to attempt it. I just shared with you what happens in my mind when anyone starts a sentence, "I really respect < fill in the blank > ... BUT ... "
That's all nothing more.

You still have yet to address dennis's comment on monies sent to Saudi and Korea. Or are you not an equal opportunity whiner?

We haven't painted anyone into a corner.
If the Islamists persist in acting like they need killin', that's THEIR problem, not ours.

I'm sorry, I won't log onto the WPost website so I must assume that the article quoted here was a Washington Post editorial. Column or editorial, either way, every thinking person has to ask the question about the substance of the article: "Why the Washington Post? Why Now?" I would suggest that the Post is pulling out all the stops in an effort to paralyze the US-Israel relationship in advance of a US-led attack on Iraq. I could go into a 5,000 word disquisition on why that is so, but I'll save it. For now.
