The Attack On Liberty; In 1967, Israeli Forces Bombarded a U.S. Spy Ship, Killing 34 Americans
Washington Post ^ | 02/01/03

Posted on 02/02/2003 3:41:59 PM PST by RCW2001

On June 8, 1967, in one of the periodic explosions of violence we've learned to expect in the Middle East, an American intelligence ship named the USS Liberty was attacked with rockets, cannon fire and torpedoes while in international waters off the town of El Arish in the Sinai desert.

Thirty-four Americans were killed and 171 injured in what would remain the largest post-World War II loss of U.S. lives in the Middle East until the bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Beirut in 1983.

But unlike that latter attack, or the 1983 truck bombing of the Marine barracks in Beirut or the suicide bombing of the U.S. destroyer Cole in Aden, Yemen, which killed 17 less than three years ago, the attack on the Liberty was not made by terrorist bombs but by the jet fighters and torpedo boats of the nation of Israel.

RCW has done it for years. Anything that might rouse anti-Israeli comments are his favorite posts. He regularly circulates the 1967 Liberty tragedy, and "free Jonathon Pollard" threads. Everyone is easily angered by the attack on the Liberty in 1967, and the majority of posters here see Pollard as an American traitor (including me). Posting an article about both topics is certainly fair, but repeatedly posting and reposting on those two subjects over the years is his pattern, and it's just to get people riled again and again.

Even losers such as RCW2001 need to get their rocks off.

RCW is back with the Liberty, 1967, again. RCW, is it boredom that causes you to periodically post the same old Liberty threads? Trolling for anti-Israelis? Remember to alternate next week and bring up one of your favorite Jonathan Pollard threads. That always gets the juices flowing every time you post it.

Aren't you a bit quick to criticize RCW? The Washington Post printed the article yesterday. You might want to pay closer attention. I'm glad RCW saw fit to post it. I question their motivation and timing, not RCWs.

Perhaps the correct approach is to lobby FR for a special section - Specifically for RCW's "Jewish" posts - he would post other non-Israel/Jewish posts under regular categories.

Those in desperate of RCW's "Jewish" posts would have their own section, and spare the rest of FR.

But I'm not going to hold my breath

LOL ... nope you'd pass out before the answer came ...

I'm wondering what the ultimate goal is ... or what the supposed "good" outcome would be ... suppose Israel were to go completely away (which will never happen) ... you think of those who have tried to make it a reality ... Adolph Hitler, Saddam Hussein, Nassar of Egypt, Pharoah of Egypt, Yasser Arafat, etc.

not very good company to be in, I should think ...

nonetheless, the Middle East problem will not be solved ... I don't think that's a good thing, but I don't support the notion that "doing away with Israel" just to appease the Arabs is the proper thing to do ... we've already seen what they think of America ... many times ...

The only people I have ever seen who keep posting the USS liberty story are guys who type while looking thru the eyeholes cut into their bed sheets. I just get sick of people who tend to justify blatant racism.
---> And isn't there some rule about spamming the same story over and over again?!

I'm sorry to offend you, and I did notice the article date. But if you do a check on RCW, you'll see the endlessly repetitive pattern. Liberty & Pollard, Pollard & Liberty, and sometimes he recirculates old FR articles of his on those 2 subjects. And he rarely replies after posting the article.

If you, for instance, had posted this thread that would be unremarkable because you aren't a 2-trick pony, you have many other interests.

And presidents of every ideology and both parties have been part of a big conspiracy to cover this up, right? Nitwit!

it's a recent article, and therefore qualifies for posting ... however, it's akin to tearing open and old wound ... I have noticed he does not post with the same frequency the Iraqi attack on the U.S.S. Stark using a French F-1 and French Exocet missile ... the attack killed 37 American sailors ... and was during the 1980's, about 20 years after the Libery incident ...

let me reiterate though, I'm not supporting his/her agenda which is quite clear ... to divide Americans and Israelis ...

Even if this is a new peice by a newspaper: Spamming is posting the same story over and over again. And the only reason for this story is to promote anti-semitism.
RCW needs to apologose for wasting our time, as well as for attempting to justify racism.

I don't disagree with the spirit of what you are saying ... that's why many of us who are interested in Middle East topics wing up on these types of threads multiple times ...

This is an irrelavant story. Much has changed in the past 37 years. This seems to be a transparent attempt to raise doubts about the American commitment to Israel on the eve of a U.S driven war against one of Israel's arch enemies

Get a life.

As an American that has never sworn alligence to Israel I strongly protest the fact that Israel has attached itself to America and leeches the life blood of this nation.

You sound paranoid. Look under your bed tonight. The Mossad or ADL might be there.

Good post. We should never forget the U.S. servicemen killed on the U.S.S. Liberty. Anyone who suggests that we do is not a true American.

I think it is high time for an investigation of the Washington Post and it's ties to terrorist organizations.
