Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed, but only after God made it clear those cities did not contain ONE righteous man.
Appreciate your civil post, but weren't young children and innocant babies also destroyed in Sodom? God destroyed them as well. What do you say about that?

God did not make death, and takes no pleasure in the destruction of any living thing; He created all things that they might have being. (Wisdom of Solomon 1-13)
For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone, says the Lord God; so turn and live. (Ezekiel 18:32)

Often when Airplane accidents occur, we'll find an interview from a "particular passenger" who for some reason or another "missed the doomed flight". Without fail, that passenger will say "thank God I wasn't on that flight".
With the shuttle, I am sure there were a few Astronauts feeling pretty let-down because they didn't make this mission.
Do you hear any interviews with them YET, giving God praise and Glory because weren't on THIS final flight? I'm sure they are on their knees thanking God they weren't. Were they spared on purpose? Who knows.
My point is, while there are those who ask question "why them?", the people who weren't on the ill-fated flights, also ask God "why me"?
There is no answer.
Living is a risk, some take more chances then others, and then we bring "free will" into the picture. It's useless to try and figure it all out. We're not supposed to.

That question has puzzled greater minds than me. All I can guess is that the Allmighty sees things from a different perspective. To Him, I suposse the little ones wen't lost at all. But again, I don't presume to know His thoughts.
