ROHRABACHER: CLINTON MISLEADS PUBLIC AGAIN, THIS TIME ABOUT NASA BUDGET (1998)

Bill Clinton has cut NASA's budget in actual dollars every year he's been President, and slashed the real purchasing power by a third. In fact, this administration has cut $40 billion from NASA's outyear budget since he was first elected.
"Furthermore, there were eight Space Shuttle launches in 1992 - the last year of George Bush's Presidency - and only four this year. So in fact Bill Clinton has cut human space flight in half.
"This Administration has repeatedly ignored the importance of space to our economy and national security. Instead, they've used NASA as an ideological piggy bank for foreign aid to Russia and for Al Gore's radical environmental agenda, while vetoing funding for important military space projects. In sum, they treated space like just another political prop.

This is just to set the record straight. In some other message boards, I have already been seeing liberals making pathetic statements, that today's shuttle tragedy is Bush's fault, because he cut NASA's budget (in the 2003 budget, NASA's budget is increased by 1.5%, which to Democrats is a cut).

I saw him at his town hall meeting today in Huntington Beach. He mentioned this.

A lot of people have forgotten that Bush Sr drafted proposals to have NASA pursue a manned mission to Mars, which was killed by the Dem congress and left to wither on the vine during the Clinton years. Taking the long view of history, that should rank as one of the worse things Clinton did (if you're a big space enthusiast - like myself).

It's not ANY president's fault, it's just the law of averages.

How's the surf? I hate to brag, but HB is a damn good place to live. The last week the weather has been great. Unfortunately, with tax time rolling around, I've been stuck in the office most of the best part of the days.

I didn't say it was anyone's fault. The liberals are making those pathetic accusations. Every time you think they can't sink any lower, they do.
But, if we want to talk about NASA's budget, it was Clinton who cut it, along with defense.

I misspent a large part of my youth there, in the surf, on the pier, surfing, fishing, grunion hunting, clam digging, partying around the fire rings.
We used to surf down at Bolsa Chica where the cooling water from the grasshopper oil wells came out of a big pipe. We used the water to warm up in the winter. Last September my daughters talked me into taking our dog along on vacation, so we went to the dog beach where the pipe used to be. Watch your step at the dog beach!

"How's the surf?"Ask Dana. He is a surfer.
Yes. I would add this tragedy to the list of strategic mistakes made by the ne'er-do-well, Bill Clinton. When 41 proposed an exciting exploration program it lost by one vote in the (Dimocratic) House of Representatives, in 1992 I think. Part of the problem was NASA bureauctatic ineptitude; they wanted funding for exploration to be added to their current budget as opposed to redirecting resources to accomplish the President's directives. Also, in a move that will forever live in ignomy, NASA doubled the estimate of the 90 day study group tasked to determine the cost of putting a man on Mars. Another part was a pork barrel issue. Space Station had purposefully spread the wealth for construction of ISS to the maximum number of states possible. This ensured support in congress because what representative wants to see future dollars moved out of his district.
