Gov. Gray Davis declared his support Tuesday for Willie Brown's bid to be elected president of the California Public Employees' Retirement System, calling the San Francisco mayor his "anchor tenant" at the powerful pension fund.
"Willie is the governor's man, and he didn't need to be lobbied," Steve Maviglio, the governor's spokesman, told us.

The investment decisions of the fund can make or break mid sized corporations and seroiusly affect the bottom line of large corporations.
Placed in the wrong hands this fund, managed for political gain, can have a tremendous impact on the decisions of political contributions by corporations and the health of the California economy.
God help us all if Willie Brown gains effective control of the fund.
