To: The South Park Republican
Thanks. I've lurked at both forums (fora, forae?) and I see both intelligent and outlandish posts in both. I'm glad that the majority of posters can get beyond politics on this one. I appreciate party loyalty. I appreciate differences of opinion. This is, after all, a free country (touch wood).

Today's news is so very sad and should serve as a reminder of the dangers of the space program and the heroes, sung and unsung, that keep it flying. It should never be taken for granted. Reminds me of Apollo 13--nobody seems to pay attention until a tragedy happens.

I did visit DU and there was a thread directing readers to a FR thread. It was real-time reporting as FReepers along the flight path were going outside to watch the shuttle fly above, initially unaware of the unfolding tragedy.

Almost all of the responses to that thread were gracious; they thought it was pretty amazing to read.

One commented that they liked the (mostly) non-political content of the thread and at times like this we should remember that we are all Americans and can put this sniping aside.
