I think this was Colubias 28th flight, in the contract NASA signed the ships are suposed to last upto 100 flights so i dont know if aging was the probem. Nasa would be hesitant to get a new fleet anywase because of the new shuttles that may be comeing out in the not too far future.

I seem to remember from the Challenger explosion they said that the odds ran for mishap for spaceflight was 1 in 27. I don't know where these new numbers are coming from.
