NOT TRUE. The vehicle has had multiple occurances of loss of a tile or piece of insulation. There had to be significant TPS damage prior to reentry to cause such a loss.

Is there any kind of word about an apartment fire in Plano that may be related to falling debris?

Beautiful poem so fitting for this very sad day. Prayers for us all and especially the families who give so willingly their loved ones for future generations' freedom to explore the universe.

We watched "We were soldiers", with Mel Gibson last night, and I thought my tear ducts were emptied for a while. Between 'We Were Soldiers" and "Braveheart," I thought too my tear ducts were tapped out for a good year or so.
My parents had watched the lift-off at the cape just 16 days ago, and my Mom was so excited about the spectacle of it all. We so often forget the courage of our service people!
True, the shuttle flights seems so routine since they restarted the program around 15 years ago. Every one of those astronauts (as well as all in the service) deserve our gratitude and prayers, for all they have done. God bless them!

Dr. Laurel Clark, one of the astronauts, was a Racine, Wisconsin native. Our first ever astronaut in space, she had become a great source of pride in our community. God bless the astronauts and their families.I understand your pride and now your grief. Roger Chaffee (Apollo I) was from Grand Rapids and it was devastating when he died. We had a wonderful planetarium built and dedicated to his memory, which included many items that he had donated to the public museum.
My prayers go out for the family members who have been so tragically affected by todays events.

Yahoo news has a link saying that NASA says there is no indication terrorism was involved...Looks to me like it was just some malfunction.
On another note, I was talking with a friend of mine this morning, and he (a physicist) said that he had read numerous articles over the past year about how Columbia's tiles on the bottom needed to be replaced. They never were, and now it looks like it might have caused the accident.

News said that there were still 3 people up there in that space house (sorry, I can't remember the name.) Anybody else here that? Is that true? They were talking about how hard it was going to be to go get them.

Nothing yet. Jeff Crilley, FOX, said they are keeping reporters 4 blocks back from fire. Unusual for a simple apartment fire.
