CLASSMATES SECURITY HOLE APPEARS IN POPUP?
Posted on 01/30/2003 4:15:00 PM PST by Chancellor Palpatine
I was closing down some windows today, and classmates.com had sprung up as a popup - with all that was needed to log in as a high school classmate of my wife.
It wasn't a name she had ever looked up, but it was in the list of people from her high school. This would have allowed us to modify her profile.
Please check your accounts with them.

Ever notice that in user profiles, the choices of political views are:
It depends on the issue
Ultra-conservative
Conservative
Middle of the road
Liberal
Very Liberal
Not interested in politics
I prefer not to answer
Where are "Ultra-liberal" and "Very conservative"?

A side-issue: try Mozilla, you can turn off pop-ups. Download version 1.2.1 at www.mozilla.org. After install go to Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Scripts & Plugins. Uncheck "Open unrequested windows". Mozilla has a much nicer history feature as well, and being open source I trust it much more than Microsoft products, which increasingly have built-in spyware and anti-consumer features.

It isn't your browser. It is the Internet in general. It is an unsafe place to be. There is even a website where right-wing extremists can post their thoughts on current events. Some of the news stories are just shocking!

There's an article at The Register about how spammers are now using Windows Messaging to put a pop-up on your computer (no browser required).
