A key group of rebuilding officials yesterday agreed on two architecture teams they'd like to see as finalists in the search for a Ground Zero planner, sources told the New York Post.
But the final decision will not be made until next week.
Berlin based architect Daniel Liebeskind and a New York based team led by architects Rafael Vinoly and Fred Schwartz emerged as the top choices among board members of the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, who met yesterday the sources said.
A final decision on the architects will be made Monday by a seperate Ground Zero steering committee representing the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, the Port Authority, Governor Pataki and Mayor Bloomberg.

The first one's got to win. Superman's fortress of solitude knows no architectural equal.

Build the WTC back on spec!!!!! Although a little taller.

"World Cultural Center"???
OK... The design is... um... questionable; but the name definitely stinks out loud. "World Culture" can kiss my American butt.

I kind of like the 'fortress of solitude' as well.
And it also gives NY the title of tallest building in the world for quite a while.

Are they serious ...?? Am I seeing that correctly - is that a replica of an airplane lodged in the top portion of the two towers ...??
Pathtic!

Liebeskind's design is not bad at all. If I had to choose from the original submittals, that would be the one.

World Culture towers?
Are those just steel girders in some kind of art nouveau arrangement?
I'd hate to hate a hulking piece of nonfunctional metal such as the eiffel tower on American soil.

Does anyone know if one of the design constraints was, a structure that could not pancake down, floor upon floor, if another airliner or fuel bomb hit an upper floor?

Yeah, looks good. I like the other one well enough, except for that weird bridge between the two towers which, as someone here points out, does rather unfortunately recall the image of the airpline hitting the WTC.
