In the first six months of the current school year, twice as many students have been expelled from Rapides Parish (Alexandria-Pineville) public schools as were expelled in the same period last year.

Principals have recommended 237 students be expelled so far in the 2002-03 term, as opposed to the 117 who were expelled in the first six months of the previous school year.

I know from an anecdotal standpoint that Rapides Parish has long had some of the worst cases of student misbehavior in the state. Administrators have been unable to control much of the behavior problems. Generally, an administrator believes that a student who misbehaves is a product of a teacher who is "not teaching" or not properly controlling the classroom "environment." The truth is often far removed from what administrators think.

So, do you think the problem with unruly students is as much biological as it is cultural?

Your article is good and I had to think further.

Over the years as I have consulted with farm businesses, the cause of problems is NEVER just one thing. We all look for the magic bullet to correct the situation but is has taken much time and many little things to cause the problem.......and it takes much time and solving many little things to correct them..........this has become a philosophy of life for me.

I do think that nutrition can be a part of the problem. The study on prisoners was very illuminating. But vitamins in it self will not solve it.

But there is a magic bullet here: Bad kids = Bad parenting.

More and more...

Kids are treated as gods that can do no wrong.
Kids are no longer taught to respect AND FEAR elders.
Kids are no longer taught that they are responsible for their actions.
Kids are taught to do what they think feels right.

It's just one more thing we owe to the liberals.
