AIDS in Africa is the same diseases they have always had all rolled into one category called AIDS. Big scam job to get $$$ especially the drug companies

Yep! You are correct. Too bad most people don't understand this.

And you know this HOW? Do you know what the future holds? I certainly don't...

It's a fact that Americans are far more educated on the cause of AIDS and how to prevent it. What's more, the American medical system is the most advanced in the world; Africa's is one of the least advanced.

You think my claim isn't an easily foreseeable one?

"the morons in Africa are raping young virgins to cure the disease. ("The idea that having sex with a virgin cleanses you of AIDS does exist and there have been reported cases of this as a motivating factor for child rape. But evidence suggests that this is infrequently the case," said Dr Rachel Jewkes, director of the MRC's Gender and Health Research Group.) Brilliant because it is acceptable to take money from taxpaying citizens of the USA and giving it to people in other countries or brilliant because it out flanked the Dems on their left?

Brilliant because it was a Republican President who proposed it. Had Bill Clinton proposed this we would've heard howls of protest.

The SOTU address had many points with which I agree; this was decidedly not one of them.

I cannot believe someone called you a liberal. OMG - LOL. (Maybe it was the fact that you're not a beer gut-sporting bigot that made them draw that conclusion? LOL)

Money well spent.

I disagree. Would you mind covering my share of the $15,000,000,000? Please make out a check to me for about $150 to cover it.

AIDS is one of the most easily prevented diseases on Earth. In fact, a person has to engage in activities that most of us would consider extraordinary to contract it. Sure there are exceptions to this rule, but AIDS is an epidemic for reasons in accordance with this rule, not because of the exceptions to it.

I’m just relieved that Bush didn’t announce that he’s giving an additional $15,000,000,000 to the population of some other continent because they can not control their impulse to hit themselves in the head with hammers. - Concussions everywhere. Oh the humanity!

As to your comment, "Another liberal talking point pulled from under their feet!"

All I can say is, at this rate, we’ll morhp into Liberals after another trillion dollars or so. What a deal.

Agreed. Party before anything, by both parties. It's about power, it's not about principles of governance. It's how we got into this mess, but people keep buying into it anyway.

-- Blacks have to see that Bush MEANS it when he talks about compassion

Blacks will vote for Bush's democrat opponent by a 90-10 percent margin, regardless of what he does. This is because the democrats will always promise the black voting bloc more money than any rebublican.

-- Liberals have had the rug pulled out from under them on two fronts, blacks and AIDS

How so? They'll simply respond by saying Bush should've allocated more money, and under their plan they will.

It hasn't already happened? I don't see any hand wringing about the enormous expansion of socialistic medicare entitlements on this site so far, but maybe I missed the threads.

Slouching Toward Servitude
"AIDS is not undermining societies. Cause and consequence have been irrationally interchanged in Bush's argument. To the extent AIDS exists in societies, those societies are already undermined. AIDS is a message from basic real chemical, physical, and biological law saying people are acting just plain damned nuts. It is a corrective agent of natural law upgrading the population of the earth by culling out those undermining individuals and cultures who are characterized by incapacity or refusal to employ higher cognitive processes. It is one of the last remaining morally just corrective measures that liberalism has been unable to blunt at the expense of others in its war of denial against realistic consequences to behavior.

Aside from that, given the similarity of content and thought processes in the Bush and Clinton speeches, the question becomes, is Bill Clinton writing George Bush's material and doing his thinking for him, or is Bush writing Clinton's material? It's reasonable to wonder, how alike are Mr. Bush and Mr. Clinton? At the least, Bush is adding support and dignity to Clinton's position. Clinton is no longer the problem, Bush is."

1. It can become our epidemic as people from Africa, fleeing the death, starvation, and chaos of their homes, seek out new lands, such as Europe (where they are now being turned away from), the US, etc...
We're supposed to have immigration laws that prevent HIV/AIDS people from entering the country.
Senate Backs Ban on Immigrants With AIDS Virus
In Brief: United States Immigration April 15, 2002
Snip...A 1990 law sponsored by Sen. Jesse Helms (R-N.C.) stipulates that individuals with HIV/AIDS cannot immigrate to the United States. It also stipulates that short-term visitors sign a waiver releasing the United States from health coverage, and it requires that visitors have sufficient health insurance to cover any medical conditions that may arise during their visit.
So much for that and another bone for the buffoons at INS.

I think the constitutional mandate this falls under is providing for the common defense...
What a joke! The Constitution is subject to "interpretation" eh? Don't "uphold" it, interpret it. The rest of your reply is all supposition.
Woudl you rather they are lifted up and helped to their feet by US, or by those who would use them against us?
They're dying! How much of a threat can they be if they're bedridden?

In return, we get a continent more stable than it has ever been in recorded history, a decline in the influence of our enemies, and the satisfaction of knowing we did something worthwhile to help our fellow man...
MORE supposition. You've given nothing that is factual, just opinions.
BTW, which continent? Ours? I think not. It isn't the federal government's job to make any area, much less a whole continent, "stable" except for the United States of America!
Do we get material rewards? Probably not, but that's not what life is about anyway.
It's all so you can "feel good"? What a load of BS! Donate your own money if you want to do something, quit allowing the taking of my money for something I don't agree with. If they all die off how can thay be a threat to anyone?
Unbelievable!

Sure it is a devastating disease. But, it is none-the-less primarily self-inflicted. Do we honestly believe that their belief that having sex with a virgin will cure AIDS will come to the rest of the world and thus infect everyone? Because there are only a couple ways to get AIDS and all but one (rape) involve fundamentally consensual behavior. We already have a tacit epidemic here in America primarily because of unbridled sexual pursuit. Even if a cure is found, that will not change their sexual habits.

It is regretable that the innocent are really the victims but the pursuit of a medical cure solely so those so inclined can continue their destructive habits simply enables the perpitrators. And that is the rest of the story. Everyone who is at high risk for AIDS doesn't want to undertake the obvious cure (abstenance or monogomy). They want to continue their unmitigated profligate sexual activities with the guarantee of a cure should they contract AIDS. What is also missed here is AIDS is a virus. Viruses adapt continuously and in response to various environmental triggers. If the behavior is not changed, the treatment, should one be developed, will be shortlived.

As in the business world, behavior that is rewarded is behavior that is repeated.
